Picked up this Battlezone cabaret last summer  - which sat untouched for quite a while. It’s been a long time (years …) since I last did any restoration work - but I do love working on these Atari cabarets.

This won’t be a detailed restore thread - just documenting results as I go along. Besides, I'm aiming to make it look 'presentable' and leave it at that. So in that respect it doesn’t really need too much doing to it.

Anyway - as it came to me:

Add Frog Tap, latex paint to panel (want to preserve as much of the original art as possible rather than go for an overlay) plus liberal amounts of paint.

Add joysticks …. and here’s a fairly obviously touched up panel - I can live with it though:

Sides were fairly straight forward - just touched in the scratches with ‘burnt amber’ acrylic paint:

Botton of cab very scruffy - so just added an acrylic kick plate:

And here’s how she currently stands.

Cab internals all stripped out, so need to turn my attention to electronics side next.

But as a bonus ….. the GO5 is working. Wasn’t expecting that:

That’s all for now …..

It's only original once.

Hi James - it looks great well done (I too love Atari cabarets as per my below collection). How did you repair the woodwork on the sides, what colour did you use etc as one of my cabarets also requires some small woodwork repair on the side?

Paint is this: http://www.theworks.co.uk/p/acrylic-paint/burnt-umber-acrylic-paint---200ml/5052089216648?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6o-3yuro3wIVzbHtCh2zOwdwEAMYASAAEgKnqPD_BwE

Cheap / cheerful. Far from an exact match, but for a quick touch up it just about passes muster.
It's only original once.

What I'd call a "proper" restoration of a 39 year-old classic game.  No taking it back to bare wood and metal to make it something that it isn't

Good effort, excellent work so far Thumbs Up

Agree, it's good to see this kind of restore on such a cab. Minty restos have their place, but sometimes I like to see a few minor battle scars. Nice work!

Nice job. My thoughts on restos have changed over years and I think this level of touch up is exactly right for an original cabinet of this age.
