🎮 International Arcade League – Join the High Score Community!

We are launching a new association for arcade enthusiasts, open to:

  • Clubs and associations
  • Arcade venue operators
  • Private collectors with arcade hardware

🕹️ Our goal:

To build an international arcade league featuring:

  • Automatic high score tracking
  • A centralized online leaderboard
  • Tournaments, challenges, and community events

🔧 How it works:

  • Members receive a ready-to-use HDD image (for real arcade machines or emulators)
including a script that automatically uploads high scores to our central database.
  • All scores are publicly visible on our website, sortable by game, region, time, and venue.

✅ Member benefits:

  • Be part of an international high score community
  • Access to official images and tools
  • Technical support for setup
  • Visibility for your club or location on the platform
  • Option to organize your own events or challenges

🚀 Next Step:

We are currently looking for founding members of the association.
If you run an arcade, represent a club, or own hardware at home – we’d love to hear from you!

A non-binding message of interest is enough – we’ll follow up with more info.

Aha ... I see ... well ... in that case, is there room for fringe members who may be able to assist if needed?

The way I see things like this is that you actually don't need anything as heavy as a database for storing the data on, if someone has a SharePoint tenancy, then it could all happily sit in a well constructed site or hub with a list or two. :)

I'm experienced with Influx and Grafana. Hi2Txt.exe would be called in a skript embedded in telegraf service writing data to my influxdb server. grafana hosts the leaderboards which will get embedded onto the wordpress website.

I mean I literally have no idea what you just said! XD

I was just offering you an opinion that circled around a solution that didn't require anyone to have to host anything. Good luck what ever you do!

I would take a wide berth from any open source stuff like you have mentioned, purely because the support for it could just end instantly, leaving any or all of your data open to vulnerabilities or attacks. It's nice being free , but you are asking people to put potentially sensitive data into an open source platform with no security policies in place.

Even M$, one of the biggest companies in the world cant get security correct 100%, i will bet you these open source platforms are just wide open.

But anyway, good luck with what you are doing, i am happy to help if i can be of assistance

Are you all serious? We're talking about A higscrore, which is a numerical value and a 3 digit Value for the name along with the timee stamp. How ist this sensitive data?

You will not have an account or any personal data on my platform. It's just a simple merged highscrore list from all participating venues

Meanwhile...
people using Multiple apps on Mobiles for Shop discounts, collecting location, personal information, app usage, device info and financial info on them and then getting hacked and no one bats an eyelid

I mean, I don't have a mobile phone/windows/apple and have a pretty good, sandboxed, life ... but ... crack on, Bods. 😅

No offence, @shanki91 ... but ... I think this is a brilliant idea and worthy of the attempt ... but I'm unfortunately not buying what you're selling because of how you're selling it. Good luck with this thread, I'm sure you'll get a lot of interest, ttfn. (y)

Oh no, my precious highscores have been leaked!!! How will I ever recover

On the flipside, just to support @shanki91's premise, the point of the opensource approach (as long as it is not owned by a corporation) is that, should it be something that invigorates a community, and engages them to the level that they get heavily involved then there is no need for it to ever be irrelevant.

A good example being Kodi ... and that is ... well ... it's BRILLIANT.

But to support your stance ... I agree ... if you think that all that is up for grabs is high-scores when I am placing a foreign device on my network? Yeah, no ... wariness is warranted, especially for the less savvy.

One could argue (and no-one has, yet) that potentially router configs and whatnot all you like, but if you are suggesting that, for something like this? Then that's either ignorance or trolling, because the there is a likelihood that folks implementing such solutions are going to be trusting that someone on 'the opensource side of things' would've checked that there's nothing harsh in the code or hardware.

Again, this is all just heresay, and thinking ahead, right now ... and nothing is (or at least was) being said harshly.

However, based on the latest reactions from the OP, I cannot fathom a reason to want to be a part of it, sorry. :-(

I was hoping the International Arcade League would act like NATO.

If there was someone trying to sell Outrun cabs for 7K (hypothetically) IAL peacekeeping troops would swoop in and control prices.

The high score ranking seems like a good concept but the implementation is going to be important.

The End HDD IMage will run on Tiny11 or Tiny10 windows based. I'm much better with Powershell than with bash/python and there is the handy Hi2Txt.exe tool that someone wrote to read the mame hiscore file. There will be a service installed on the PC that you need to configure, namely DB Name, TimeZone and Auth Token. The script will simply reead out new hiscores and submit them to my influxdb database via REST endpoint. That is all.

Also IDK about you but I don't run my arcade in a fortune 500 company with valuable ressources to collect. My arcade's network consists of just a few IoT Things and maybe a Laptop. Why should I be worried about possible backdoors? Do you run your arcade in your office?

The high score thing sounds like a decent idea btw.
Maybe they are Next Level NATO. Or NLNATO?
Identity assurance levels of the International Arcade League? IALoTIAL?
All these acronyms get confusing.
Just realized it's Friday and I haven't had a drink yet. Not long until that changes :)

edit: Switzerland isn't in NATO, Duh!

Would this aim to be an open source thing for arcades similar to this free and open source thing that exists on a few consoles with some clear differences?

yeah, it sounds like you don't have a clue what you are doing or the implications of anything

you were offered advice, failed to take it and tried to laugh it off because you are totally unaware of the risks

open source software being installed on machines...yeah, that is totally secure...you just keep high scores, that is fine, but what is the open source software doing that isn't getting any security patches at all?

i don't even work in cyber security...but wow
