Evri - useless

I don't know if anyone has had any trouble with Evri this month as numerous parcels have been undelivered, delayed, lost or delivered to another address. We are getting it quite bad in the South West with our local MP actually writing to the CEO asking what the hell is going on. Anybody else having any issues with this terrible courier?

Ordered some Christmas present for my dad on the 12th Dec - gone missing
Ordered some solar panels from Amazon - gone missing
Ordered a carbon monoxide alarm - undeliverable address

A couple of drivers have been sacked in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area for dumping parcels...

We have two houses - at one it is horrendous, whatever the instructions are (naturally we aren't often in, particularly at one place) the delivery guy just dumps it on the floor in front of the door in plain view and leaves, despite there being a parcel box, space under the gate to put stuff, shed etc, stuff 'going missing', damaged, failed deliveries when I have been there etc etc.

At the other the guy would go to the ends of the earth to make sure you get your parcel.

The difference between the two is the first is always someone who perhaps hasn't been in the area that long (trying to be very careful how to word it so as to not cause offence!) and the second is a Gurkha (we have a large Gurkha community in this area), and I know you shouldn't stereotype but they really are the most honourable and respectful, hard-working people I have ever met.

If you pay a pittance then all you will get is either people who cannot get employed elsewhere, or those who are doing it for petty cash, we seem to have both.

I would also imagine that very little 'parcel dumping' goes on - I don't know what the evri recruitment process is like but if you are of a certain mind, loading up your van with parcels can be a great way of getting your families Christmas presents sorted on the cheap.

Hate getting stuff from Evri, Royal Mail is my favourite, but it seems certainly like everyone uses them because they are so cheap.

A couple of years ago I bought loads of stuff in the GAME sale. Out of 6 orders, only half of them arrived. I think a lot of theiving goes on when the parcel is easily identified to be from a retailer.

A lot of my ebay purchases are delivered by Evri, and none have gone missing, along with my Limited Run games (their packaging is plain now). The driver does however leaves the parcel on the doorstep when we're out or leave next door on their doorstep, even though they have a porch that is unlocked. Recently he's been hiding the parcel behind the bins etc.

Even Royal Mail leave the parcels in the bin rather than take back to the depot for me to collect. I'm just lucky than none of my parcels have been stolen from my bins

Had a monitor delivered late on Friday by EVRI, even though the box was clearly marked FRAGILE they had dropped it on one corner, casing all smashed with plastic rattling around inside! 🤬

It's a total lottery with Evri, some people are treated OK whilst others are being constantly let down, we now fall into the former category, but when they were 'Hermes' they 'lost' 4 parcels in 6 Months, the sorting depot is about 1.5 miles from me, but they are not open to the public! So I know how you guys must be feeling. No way that a company should be allowed to operate like this in 2025.

I sold some stuff on here recently & the buyer requested RM over Evri as he had his parcel left out in the rain the first time I sent him something so set-up a account with them & have been using them since with much better results sent some xmas prezzies to my sister in law Friday & they got there (Leeds) mid Sat morning next day with similar pricing as they are all competing now its just not worth using Evri any more for the risk.

Did you guys watch the Panorama episode on Evri a few days ago? (was also repeated yesterday on BBC2).

With Evri, I think a lot of it is down to your local driver, some are good (like our regular driver), others are bad (like the one who delivered recently to my work). The driver at my work parked in the road, left his rear van doors wide open and delivered to our workplace. When the Evri driver left, there was a large bagged parcel left in the middle of the road where the van had stopped. The Evri driver would have had the turn the van around to leave our premises so you couldn’t miss it. They were either completely oblivious to a large object sitting in the road, or they were just plain lazy.

Two recent experiences with Royal Mail have been bad. One parcel our household sent this week had been savaged, ripped open and the contents of a present to a two year old relative had been blatantly stolen. The other parcel by Royal Mail was “delivered“ to the wrong address. The delivery confirmation photo and GPRS confirmed this address, but the person living there denied ever receiving the parcel. Perhaps the postman took the photo next to this person’s mailbox and kept the parcel? Who knows.

Sadly, at this time of the year there are so many temporary staff working for these courier companies that a lot of them are not familiar with the route, they simply don’t give a monkey’s, or attract the small amount of dishonest ones who know they are only going to be there for a few weeks.

had a parcel off someone from here not get delivered, after a few days i checked on tracking to be told it was in my safe space, bear in mind, there is always someone in the house due to my dogs. Apparantly my designated safe space, which i have never heard of, is just down the side of my house.

No card, no knock...nothing, i found it 2 days later, luckily it was not in the rain and was still there

All parcel delivery companys are useless in my opinion , Not not one of them respect what is in the box and the drivers dont give a shit and will drop kick you box if it means them getting paid. Our Evri driver started to go down the side of our house , Then he started letting himself in the conservatory and place parcels in there. You DO NOT wont them just letting themselves in your house !! He then left the gate open and my dog (Who has no idea about road safety although he is a Lab ! ) was found wandering on the road outside. That could have been expensive. The guy who does ours is , not sure how to word this without upsetting people , Is not all there and does not walk to well. Hats off to him for getting a job and working as I am sure he could sit at home and get paid ! I had to have a word and was trying my best not to upset him at the same time as I am not the calmest or most patient person going ! lol

I was waiting for a (VERY IMPORTANT) letter from the hospital it was posted on 26th November (Stamped by Royal Mail - Second class) and tuned up on Thursday 11th !! I know its second class so they use a slower can but really ! I think royal mail are so close to the worse one i not the worse one.

But competition drives excellent standards to achieve a better service? Isn't that what we were told in the face of national sell offs of publicly owned services?

Nah, all privatisation and competition does is drive cost cutting to achieve more profit for greedy directors and corporate shareholders.

The workload placed on employees is ridiculous to the point where a lot of them no longer care as they have to hit targets. Madness from the very top that oozes to the bottom. Royal Mail especially are a fucking horrible company to work for.

As an antidote to all the horror stories….

Postie normally does everything she can to deliver but came home one day to a card under the door, gutted.

Heard some noise a couple of hours later, she had come back with a younger, slimmer, girl and she was trying to crawl under the back gate to be able to open it and put the parcel in the shed!

That is dedication, and she always gets a Christmas bonus.

• Do not bother putting FRAGILE on a parcel, they all say that, so none of them will get preferential treatment.
• I worked as a Christmas temp delivering parcels for Royal Mail a couple of years ago, I never saw anyone drop kicking or mishandling anything.
• DO package stuff well. A bit of brown paper won't suffice.
• All the stuff above about Evri is true, the directors and shareholders are obviously making a lot of money off the backs of the poor sods trying to do the impossible in the snow and rain for less than minimum wage

Despite this ☝️ being 100% on the money, there are still a few people around who care about the job they do so no matter which courier company you use, all you can do is cross your fingers and hope your parcel goes through one of them !

I am a business seller on Ebay and I won't touch them with a bargepole, I am exclusivly RM. Even private sellers on there can easily deselect them from simple delivery, no need to use the clowns at all.

I used to work in a parcel warehouse and you are absolutely correct. It's more down to the timescales and stuff though. It's such a nightmare especially this time of year to sort all the parcels out of 20+ vans into cages (which are often way too small so you have to pallet the rest and wrap them which takes ages and they often get stacked completely wrong and fall) it's all down to time at least in the warehouse. This was years ago too so i expect its ten times worse now.

Also putting Fragile on a box literally means nothing. You see it on 70% of parcels and it's just like seeing cardboard all day you get used to it and it goes unnoticed. Plus again, with the timescales and often lack of space and the need to rush unloading the vans so the driver can get home etc etc no one has time to be extra careful nor do the facilities allow for it. Stuff gets chucked into a cage (if you are lucky) and then tons of stuff gets stacked on top of it or around it then its thrown around in there while being fork lifted into lorries, the journey, unloading, loading into the delivery van.. theres so many stages things will get damaged.

It sucks and it's how all of them are. I've used DPD, DHL, Fedex, UPS, Parcel Force, Evri (never again!), RM, all of them let me down at some point or another. It's unfortunate but just how it is. I'd never in a million years ship a screen/monitor these days. Get something fragile AND heavy (people like to drop heavy parcels into cages instead of bending down to place it in, i don't know why) and it's all over.

Most certainly.
There are still people I know in the job that are great including our own postie for example. Most of the RM veterans that know routes /customers preferences etc have left RM though as it's ridiculous working practices / work load. Our regular postie from years ago went to work at Morrisons.

Our Evri guy is regular and OK but his day off person leaves high value items on the door step in full view.

I had a delivery of a pallet of wood the other day so the van was blocking most of the road and a courier driving a Sainsburys van decided to drive straight over next doors lawn where there is an inspection hatch. Probably broke it for the umpteenth time. She could have waited a few minutes but ended up being really rude / sarcastic about it with the next door neighbour when he complained. It would have been caught on the ring doorbell of one of the neighbours too so she may find herself looking for another job come New Year.

Our Evri lady is the ONLY one who knocks on the door and waits.

On the other hand...... Post Office
My wife did a crochet blanket for a new born. Took her over 30 hours.
We sent it "Signed For" with Royal Mail.

The postie knocked on the door, no answer, signed for it himself, left it on doorstep.
It got nicked 6 hours later. We have videos of delivery and nicking.

Compensation maximum £20 IF I HAVE RECEIPTS. Receipts for a handmade item? Cannot be bothered!
