Its that disconnect from not being on the ground, so to speak, having to rely on middlemen.

Theres a vague possibility that I could arrange shipment via a car dealer over there, that would save one part of the headache.

I reckon that if these resellers are charging 300, then if you were there yourself and sourced them yourself face to face with actual arcades/closed arcades/old distributors, maybe you could half that? Maybe less, you never know with these things.

Combining the face to face element, along with less problematic shipping...could be well worth it.

Theres also the other part of the equation, that the last place you'll find these things is the likes of Dublin and London (for obvious reasons). So when we think of Japan, it automatically goes to Tokyo. I'd be willing to bet that Tokyo is picked clean. The real bargains are always furthest away from central cities.

Anyway thanks for the link there, all is useful :)

Yup there's got to be tons of old "Game Corners" in far flung places that are still teeming with old machines that they don't know what to do with. I think you would need a local middleman still do deal with storing stuff while you gathered things up to fill a container though, probably not easy for a foreigner to rent storage space/vehicles to move stuff around.

Makes sense that city locations near ports are the places to get picked clean. Kobe, Osaka and Nagoya would be the next port cities to look at. I wouldn't want to guess at whether there's rich pickings to be had or not. It requires research! I'll have to see what I can find out.
