Yeah - but more importantly makes for a pretty decent test bench monitor. It'll be nice alongside a recently bought 15" GO5 (if that ever gets delivered).

OK, so this topic started a bit late for me, but 3 weeks ago I had this little package of Wico goodness appear on my step courtesy of P-Man. After a little (long enough) time they now look like the picture below. Not bad for 99p + postage! AND a 4" Robotron stick in there too! Wink

Hi Dex-Jay

My Roby shafts look like the top pic, what did you use to get them looking like the bottom pic?

Posted By: Dex-Jay
Date Posted: 24 May 2013 at 5:26pm
Hi,
Watcha want is a lathe, drill or what I used a pedestal (vertical drill). You could mount the drill in the vice. Anyway put the end in the chuck and tighten it up (don't go mad, but firm you know).

Then while spinning use abrasives (I used Aluminum Oxide) in coarse grades, then progressively finer. 80, 180, 320. Do this to the shafts and the ball (carefully as you don't want flats on the balls).
At this point most of the crud & rust will be gone. Then I used 1200 and 2000 wet and dry with just a bit of water.

Then polish the shaft with Autosol (Brasso probably would do it). You could use much the same of the nylon balls - Novus is good or I used a 3M Fine Polish as a final polish on the balls.
Wax lightly to stop it from oxidising and that's it! Use eye protection if you're clumsy like me and watch your fingers! They take about 10 mins from start to finish and while not uber-mint, they do look pretty good...Big smile

Rich

(Don't have a spare 4" Wico do you? Thought I'd ask!)

Boo! As trivial as it may be though, what kind of flux is it? Is it liquid flux? I need to get some as the PCB that Ade fabbed for me will likely need some to aid the soldering...

-------------

Hi dude. It's liquid flux - I think 100ml. Got it from eBay and can find the link if you like but can't vouch for it yet as I've not used it today as breathing oxygen is uncomfortable enough, let alone boiling flux :( Plus I don't want solder burns in my bed . Was about £7 iirc and I intend to refill my Maplin's flux pen.

PS Will sort out the A4000 this w/e but I've been man ill since the end of last week so have been milking the sympathy whilst it's on offer!

We should have started this thread earlier and then both split the shipping to the UK in half - would have probably saved even more (*especially if others ordered one too!)

Queue shared shipping / import forum section or similar?

I know from bringing one of my cabinets in from the US it is a real hassle, but if 4 or 5 come together it's probably much less hassle and cost saving

http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/" rel="nofollow - http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/  Is not accurate. I know the author and the data. Its an indication but can be up to 50% out. Its an old Vosa data set that is then fuzzied to create statistics.

I on the other hand have the real data.

This came today.

A neat little trick to overcome the problem of a three player cab and multiple pcbs or a multi-game system...

... When playing solo it's ideal to use the middle set of controls, but you can't wire them as P1 because it's annoying when two are playing (gets a bit cramped with P1 in the middle, P2 on the right and nobody occupying the spare P3 position on the left).

Ideally P1 controls would be in the middle for solo mode and on the left for two or three player mode (swapping control positions with the P3 controls), with P2 controls always on the right.

This little "cheat" does exactly that...
... you cross-wire the n/c and n/o contacts between pairs of relays, which then have their common connections going to the Jamma harness.
Connect all 16 inputs together (making all 16 relays operate simultaneously), wire the inputs to a switch (taking +5vdc from the switcher) and you have a device which (at the flick of a switch) can send the joystick and buttons on the left to the P1 connections on the harness and all the middle ones to the P3 pcb connector.
Flick the switch in the opposite direction and all the middle controls become the P1 controls and the ones on the left get sent to the pcb P3 input connector...

All I really needed was a 16 pole relay, but they're quite hard to come by (mainly as they don't exist) and this Arduino board was £15 from buyincoins.com and is a much more elegant solution than 4 x 4-pole relays (if it works - it's made in China, so there's every chance the 16 relays will just be empty plastic shells and the ICs are made from Rice Krispies LOL).

And, of course, a similar hack (albeit with two modules instead of one) can be used to overcome the problem of being stuck with specific characters, on 2 player cabs, when playing 4 player boards (such as The Simpsons).
You can simply use one module to flip over the P1 & P3 control inputs, and the other to flip over the P2 & P4 inputs, meaning you're not stuck playing the Marge and Lisa characters (or whatever the P1 & P2 characters are).

Very nice those Encom Tron marquee's!

Last week I received this little lot from my mom who was back from holiday-ing in Florida!
I said mom, "..here's the list! See any of this lot at a yard/cardbbot sale, pick it up for me!"

The Pac-man pic disc was 99 cents!

Yet more stuff for the shelf!

So cool! Did they ever release the PacMan and friends series on VHS/DVD over here? (I've assumed some of these are merchandise tie-ins for the TV show rather than in general)

Hmmm...it IS a good game, but it needs more cowboys...
