Hi there,

Yesterday I spied this in a local antique shop.  'Winner', a Pong clone and apparently the first cabinet by Bally, dated 1973.  Unfortunately there wasn't anyone about to find out more info, but it looked in pretty good condition for it's age.  Has anyone seen or played one of these before?

They will probably want a fortune for it!

How much? I imagine if it's an antique shop they will have researched the machine and priced it as high as they think is possible. Pity it's not just a 2nd shop.

I didn't manage to find out the price, but will make some further enquiries. :)

I saw that in said shop last week also. No one around to ask. Loads of cool mechanical carousel and crane machines too. Love that antique shop. In fact, that whole street.

Did you remove the back yourself with no one around?

yeah cool find, will be stupidly expensive though, most antiques shops are, all still stuck in the days when there was no internet

for a bit of fun I will guess the price is £2000 and its non working

ooooooh if I had the space (and the money) I'd have that...

I went in again and was surprised to see the machine still there. It's from a clear out in a Bingo Parlour and was in storage for 30 years. It's untested. Price wise...it was a bit of a surprise. Any more guesses? :)

Nope I didn't buy it. Lack of space and a new baby due next month, it's not the best time. Plus if I'm honest it's not really my thing. But it's an interesting machine for sure, and I really hope it gets snapped up by someone who can give it the time and attention it deserves.

For £75, I am sure you could find the space !.

Grab it and I'm sure someone will take it off your hands almost immediately. It would certainly fit on well at the computer museum in Oldenberg if nothing else. I am sure Jorge would love it.

That's a complete steal for an antique shop. Needs to find a good home. I'm digging the super-retro bur wood effect.

The cats out of the bag now with the price.  Someone will see this and work out where it is and buy it.  We will then see it on eBay for £500+.  Let's make sure this doesn't happen, and it goes to a non-proiteering collector

Well to save it being converted and put on eBay I have bought it.

Once I get the back off and all checked over I will post up a restoration thread. Will look cool next to backflippers pong original and will be working for all to play.

Thanks for the heads up on it and sorry it was not the right time for you to buy.

Watch this space

It's good that it may not end up for resale, at a much higher price

I was half tempted to phone the place myself and buy it, but sadly no space, which is always the way

Just a quick update.

I picked up this cab Monday after work so it's now awaiting being fixed. The cab is tidy but has some repair work on one side where the ply had been split. Looks complete apart from back door which they couldn't find. Even the cover on the pcb still has the lead ties holding it to the pcb to protect it.

Once I get time to take a further look I will post up some pictures.

Cheers
