If I'm looking at getting a 21" sony trinitron
(Owned a silver/grey flat_screen) in the past....amazing crt....

Would I simply be looking for that model again?...

The reason I ask...I've seen a few black-cased models around too...

I appreciate they must be both good consumer sets....but....either just as good?

I'm not prepared to pay the £300 and even £800 on eBay for a Pvm.

Thank you....advice appreciated.

age is a factor to keep in mind, it's good to find a crt tv which hasn't had too hard a life, regardless of the make

sony trinitron, panasonic, jvc ... all good makes

Thanks escape dude.....I'm not sure I am though *sigh*

Joe...I'll bear that in mind....

I'd sooner buy a crt than Pvm...to free up some cash for the grails I'm looking for.

Space and money - the common issue :)

Thank you again, Joe.

You too escape....I'd jump at the chance if I were closer.

I have a dark grey 21" triniton. Such a great tv. Got mine for free from freecycle, about 2 miles from my door. They are on there every day of the week. For FREE!

+1 for free cycle - although CRT seem to scare on the ground these days. Ebay and gumtree also are good sources.

Flin....thank you so much for the kind offer :)

I don't drive though....although....I'd be up for getting involved in meets :)

I don't think I'd manage lugging it back on the train though.

I'll check the other pages you mentioned Neil....Thank you...

I play a lot of retro, but...it's on a 14" set....I'd like to go back to a 21"

Thank you guys for help.... :)

No worries and yeah, go as big as you have space for! 14" only works when you are sat up right in front of it!

I agree...14" can work surprisingly well!!!

A genuine issue....I'm a big fan of power stone 1 and 2 on dreamcast....neither game really works on the small set...

Lovely vibrant colours on a larger set...it's just what most of us gamers really appreciate....

I mean....I didn't specifically look for it when I was younger....

I remember playing a zx81 with a shaky screen in black and white, thinking it was the best thing ever!

For Powerstone and other Dreamcast games, I'd be thinking a 21 inch VGA CRT monitor would be the ideal as it would be the perfect picture without interlacing. There should be enough old workstation monitors knocking around.

No good as an all-rounder though, obviously (15kHz stuff won't work ).

I feel for you KC84. I'm in the same boat myself. Looking for a nice 4:3 21" trinitron on Panny to play my SNES on.

Despite what folks say, they're not easy to come by anymore. I've been watching Ebay, Gumtree and my local Freegle for months now, and the only TVs of that spec that have come up within maybe two hours' drive have been tatty or snapped up immediately. Such a shame that couriers won't touch CRTs anymore.

Anyone got a minty specimin north of Edinburgh they want to shift, let me know!

Well!!!

I went to the heart of England shop last Friday when I said I would.

Where there used to be around 20 crts...there were 4....

Not a 21" in sight...

Walking out the shop....a lone tv on a unit...gasp....a 21" trinitron!!!!!

I collected it today...about an hour ago..because a friend had a van..

Just set it up....the colours are amazing, pretty straight image...but....wow....it's a nice one.

Heads up....coventry store today when collected...

2 tidy 14" tv's in there....one trinitron, one Toshiba. Tenner each.

I'm over the moon....man....trinitron pictures are something else.

Thank you, rygar...

Gave it a bit of a clean....the face more than anything else...

Ordered a few ps2 games from cex yesterday....

Can't wait to play some outrun and Virtua fighter 4 on it.

The 21" really gives some games extra life..

Thanks Bomjac,

That is a nice looking tv, and just about doable distance wise. But at 33 inches it is a tad on the big side! I'm after a 21 incher for reasons of space.

Cheers anyway!
