So, after all these years of pissing about with peroxide and making crazy chemical concoctions, you just needed to plonk your yellowed plastics in direct sunlight!

We sometimes hit 35-40'C in the middle of summer down here on a sheltered south facing patio.
I'm quite interested to try this on a yellowed Dino King surround, because as good as retrobrite chemicals are, I've noticed they do change the finish of the plastic a bit..  this looks like it won't ruin a glossy shiny surface.

.......... Or, he's a massive joker and we're all about to turn our kit BROWN.

My C64c is out in the sun today, and by the end of the week I’ll have a set of one of my Naomi plastics out in the sun haha

Post before and after pics on here chaps. I want to see if people are getting decent results from this.

Also... heat does not matter. Just direct sunlight.

You can get decent results in the UK! I just want to see how it can help with the arcade scene.

If anyone has a go this week, please post before and after pictures.

I desperately want to see Shaun Holley get his brown OK baby out in the sun for a few days haha.

I’ll be putting my Dino plastics out for sure!! :D

Hehe I hope it’s not a prank, but there are far too many positive testimonials. Maybe I’m just not in on the joke haha.

yeah! just keep smiling at the sun for a few hours.

To stop yourself from burning to a crisp, cut out the shape of a smile into a paper plate, and tape the plate to your head. Make sure the cut out is over your teeth, or you will end up with a tan smile randomly burnt on to your face.

Thought it was partly the sunlight that turns it yellow, else why aren't all old things yellowed

I had some white plastic CCTV cameras and they yellowed in the sun, also some Temperature Sensors that also have from being outside, could just be if it's in daylight or maybe the strip lights do it as well

End of day, just some Crème Peroxide is supposed to sort it, just opened the tub I bought, when I say open, I mean from when it was delivered in the packingLOL dated 2016 so that's how long it takes me to get round to stuff Embarrassed

I tested the retr0bright on my CPS QSound Punisher case in june ~ july 2018, and that worked a bit.

I used Vanish Oxi-action + hydrogen peroxide 30% + cornflour and put it on the case for 2 h 45 under the sunlight.

You have to let the retr0bright at least 30 min to see the first effects, it is a very slow process.

Shoe Phone that is yellowed all over, even insideStern Smile

Dino Cab Front, only yellow parts are area's not covered with bezel or CP, half shoe done in Peroxide other nothing, dino front in Peroxide too and see what happens to it all

Yesterday I spent 2 hours cleaning a chair seat and back, left it out in sun all day to dry, when I put it in shed last night a kind bird had shat on it so had to clean one part again today, must of seen the Tennis ball green coloured seat and thought that'll doApprove

I think the idea behind using no chemicals on the plastics it to prevent the plastics getting brittle. The peroxide will get into microscopic fractures in the plastics, and cause them to degrade.

The main takeaway from this is that we know peroxide works, but can JUST sunlight work?

Get some pictures of before!!!

cheers :P

Found that when bleeching Skyway wheels back to white, it changes the plastic, people that have done it on their bikes and then selling as restored always seem to forget to mention small details like that thoughLOL

Just thought I'd do both, see what happens, took photo's before so will post them later

This is so counter intuitive, I thought it was a wind up.

But of interest, you never see white double glazing that has yellowed. Might be a different type of plastic or it could have something to do with the upvc being constantly in sunlight.. Or clouds. But you get what I mean...

They can make UV Stabilised plastic so it doesn't change but they just don't bother

Thinking about 2 of the Door Bell boxes, neither have been near direct sunlight or strip light yet they have yellowed, so what does cause it

I think in the video he mentions that heat may be the cause of yellowing and not UV.

I think there is something in it being heat, i bought a whirlpool.bath, white plastic and from the last 2 years filling it the area the water goes on to the corner seat part first from tap has yellowed from the hot water. Partner has some shop display m&m figures, she was saying arm has yellowed a bit, pretty sure its been near radiator and old crt monitors get warm

Thanks for posting this matey, may not work on all plastics or maybe some need more time than others but big difference in my C64, thats genuinely just been in sun for 2 days, was better after one day, better still after 2

Yeah, according to the video, each day that you leave the plastics outside in the sun the better the results.
I think he did a comparison on the same piece of plastic showing the difference after 1,2,3 and 4 days etc.

Just keep putting the C64 out in the sun until it looks like it just came out of the factory ??

When we moved house recently we had to chuck away a load of stuff that was sitting in the conservatory as it had faded over the five years that we had lived there. I’ve had tarpoline over my arcade machines since we’ve moved into our new house as my new arcade room is nice big Garden store/lean to/conservatory thing with a plastics roof, just in case the sun fades the machines. I’m currently working on a way to cover them from the sun.

The plastic side panel on my bath is interesting. It's ment to be white and the sun can never shine directly on it yet it has yellowed on a section to the left and a section to the right but the middle has remained white.

The only thing I can think of is that the suns reflection from the tiles and the toilet has caused it? It can't be heat as the middle of the panel is still white. There is also a part of the right hand side yellow section in a clear line that has remained white as it is shaded from the posibility of reflected light by a shelf.

I've put a couple of things out on the shed roof so I'll see how they get on.

Interesting. A few years ago I had a NAC in my conservatory with a very yellow speaker shroud....  I remember moving an ashtray from it, and it left a perfect circle that was a lot more yellow underneath. It evened out over the next few days.
I didn't really think much of it. It never went back to white... but definitely whiter. Similar to Lewisgamer's results with the SNES.

No before, but this was on my counter by a window for a week. Didn’t even go outside. So all you have to do is chuck it next to a window that the sun shines through throughout the day.

The keys were terrible, now looking fantastic! So there you go, you don’t even have to put it outside!

I’ve had my Naomi surround out in the back for 2 weeks!
Not had much sun, but it’s looking so much better.
The inside is still as yellow as the whole surround was, as it hasn’t been pointed at the sun.
The Naomi was as yellow as that all over!

See how it looks on the side that has been in the sun!
Loads better!

is it right in saying:

if you are impatient you can use peroxide/sun (the old retrobrite way) to get faster results (at a cost perhaps  ... ie. peroxide may not be good for the plastic or give uneven results etc)

and if you are patient, just use the sun only ---  it will take longer but you will(?) eventually get the same results as if you went with the peroxide method

I tried to take pictures in the same light conditions; direct sunlight, from the same phone, so I do think its an actual improvement.

I'm not even sure that stuff does much, it may just depend on the plastic to how long it takes, I had some on dino front and it's not much different if any yet the C64 was Sun only and that was loads better after a few days the same time Dino front out

Would just put in the sun and see how it goes first I think

The shoe phone I put out, top half had the peroxide on bottom without, out same time and top is whiter, so don't make much sense really
