Looks like Sega have released an updated version of Virtua Racing for the Nintendo Switch and its not a port of the PS2 SEGA AGES version but appears to be a re-mastered version of the Arcade game.

Widescreen support like the original arcade machine
Now running at 60fps
Increased draw distance compared to the arcade original
Online multiplayer
8 Player split screen multiplayer!!!
and loads of other stuff that I can't remember.

The only problem is that it's only available in Japan at the moment, and I can't find a release of it over here. Can't wait until I can download this for my Switch.

Ah it appears only the DLX had the widescreen then. Double wow - must have been one of the first machines to have that! Big smile

I know the twin cab and the upright wasn't widescreen. Spent many hours 'fixing' that game, prob my one of my fav racing games, just a shame it doesn't seems to emulate very well.

Can download it from the Japanese store apparently, but a bit of hassle:

Not tried it myself but might have to now! Looks like an excellent conversion.

It's a brilliant conversion - got it the other day

Easy enough to setup a Jap account and then buy eShop credits from play-asia Thumbs Up

I had the DLX... As always was foolish to sell it but I was 19 and it was taking up all the space in my parents garage.

Yeah, I remember when messing around with MAME and seeing the 16:9/Widescreen option and thinking really... in 1992? Its great for us now as it can natively support modern TVs without re-coding the aspect ratio or stretching the image.

It's an excellent port and the split screen multiplayer is awesome. Probably the definitive version!?

It’s mega easy to set up a Japanese account and buy eshop credit.
Virtua Racing is 100% in English too.
