I have had my work email account deactivated as it has been compromised (Sending out large quantities of spam mail), I have been advised to scan all devices which use this email account and then to use a stronger password. Having used Norton and Mcafee in the past and not being impressed with them at all due to countless popups and overall sluggishness I don't use any av software at all, so I need some advice please guys on which software to opt for.

Thanks

TBH all the consumer grade AV is bloated crap.

I use Norton SEP. Not very sexy but grafts and doesn't eat my computer alive.

Most of the free ones are pretty good, just depends on the level of control you want, AVG is easy enough, Comodo can be an options mare if not careful.

Also install and give Malwarebytes a good run through your system.

One thing to note about AVG free is that it will torment you to buy their products. Even if you buy AVG it'll still torment you into buying their other products!

If anything it's definitly nagware!

I found I could get Kaspersky free as I have a Barclays bank account, which has being fantastic, I used to stupidly pay for McAfee which was useless in comparison, on top of that I had Malwarebytes, but recently uninstalled it as the pop ups were driving me insane and making my laptop slow right down (and fan spin like crazy)

used avg for years, used security essentials for a long time now. And do a malwarebytes scan every now and then. tbh I've yet to find one that is perfect, and stops everything, if your gonna get hit by a bad one, its just your time! i would never pay for one tho. Backup regularly and be sensible.
