Hi yeah as per title really, gonna close my PayPal account because as a service the new terms and conditions have gone way beyond anything they should be allowed to do. I don't do social media so it probably won't affect me but they do not have the right to be judge, jury and executioner. For Gods sake they're a service and only the courts of your country should be able to remove money from your account without permission and as it stands only after due process. Sorry but Wow, my grandad fought and died helping to rid the world of this kind of ideology grr.
Anyway rant over any other options ?

I recently paid a member on here by Monzo, it was really easy and quick.
I’ve also done a few bank transfers in the past which again was simple enough.

Basically if they think you are not being a good citizen they will fine you $2,500.

I emptied my accounts immediately.

I still use them but don't leave any money with them and they don't have access to my bank accounts.

I expect alternatives to pop up soon.

"If you are a seller and receive funds for transactions that violate the Acceptable
Use Policy and said violation is associated with fraud or the sale of goods that are
counterfeit or otherwise infringe on intellectual property rights, then in addition to
being subject to the above actions you will be liable to PayPal for the amount of
PayPal’s damages caused by said violation. You acknowledge and agree that
$2,500.00 U.S. dollars per violation is presently a reasonable minimum estimate
of PayPal’s actual damages"

Doesn't that mean it has to be fraud/counterfeit goods?

edit: - ah, I think they've recently inserted the "and said violation is associated with fraud or the sale of goods that are counterfeit or otherwise infringe on intellectual property rights" , after all the outrage.

Yeh and I’m not sure how much influence Elon musk has on pay pal
But by judging by his latest acquisition ( twister)

Things don’t look to rosey !
Everybody getting the sack!
And twister expected to go into bancrupcy.. no wonder he’s looking for new ways to make some more bitcoin!

Having said that..
My faith in them is high as recently sold a cab
New owner tried to get money back without
Returning cab ..
Money frozen for 8 weeks & its was a very uncomfortable experience.
having taken Photos of cab working when it left me
Paypal found in my favour. In the end ( 2 months later

Not aware of an alternative

I would have thought this was added to crack down on very large scale sellers of counterfeit goods.

Most banks and other contracts have similar clauses worded more carefully.

I don't think you have to worry about selling the old vintage bootleg pcb.

As I understand things (not that I've looked into it too deeply), the main concern that's caused outrage is the fact a private company has decided it has the right to decide if someone has infringed the agreement and take money as a fine, all at PayPal's sole discretion, without any due process of law. Not something that's likely to affect 'normal' PayPal users, but it's a bit worrying, nonetheless.

I think the sequence is:

Paypal has had a $2500 fine in its T&C's for at least a year, relating to breaching acceptable use.

A few months ago, 'misinformation' got added to the acceptable use.

People twigged and got upset (understandably) as it's all far too vague and open to Paypal's interpretation of misinformation and what counts as spreading it.

Paypal apologised, said it was a mistake and edited the policy to state the fine is for a breach of acceptable use (including misinformation) in regards to fraud and counterfeit goods (so nothing to do with spreading your world views on whatever others might deem misinformation).
