i might be getting a vectrex soon so would be looking to get a multicart (one which you can write stuff too, so i can check out homebrew/new stuff etc).

Richard Hutchinson is making a new batch of vecmulti carts; any users of the vecmulti here? im thinking the vecmulti looks very good, just wondering what others think, as im a vectrex noob.

Yep Vec Multi is awesome. Richard is a nice guy and very helpful too.
It's simple to use and does what you need. You can even decase it, attach a serial cable to 4 pins and send individual ROMs to it as a development device (I tried making the OSX client but failed).

Just get one

I have an old VecFlash cart, which is excellent.

Does Richard still have a website? Where can I find out about his new VecMulti?

This game is amazing...I would also recommend buying a copy from:

http://www.packratvg.com/

That way you get hi-score saving

(I got mine from Jon Dondzilla but the Packrat version will be the same, bar the credits on the box)

Just to add, I have bought Vectrex games from Packrat as well and so can vouch for the service.

ive been thinking about vectrex overlays, does anyone like them or do you guys prefer to just play in black and white

im half wondering about just using just one 'generic trippy multi-colour' overlay for all games, sort of like the overlay which vector pilot uses

cant figure out in my head if that's a good idea or not though

For me a bit of both. I think a well designed overlay adds to the game. However some overlays just seem to be there 'for the sake of it', which doesn't work so well...eg why did they put the gridlines on the Minestorm overlay? It would have been better if it were just blue without the gridlines.

So some and some. And I think some of the 'space' games look best without overlay.

Also sometimes overlays work well for games they were not intended for...eg the Vectrexians one works pretty well for Protector/YASI.

i agree i tried minestorm with some various overlays and i found i quite liked it looking a bit green - im not mad on everything in black and white, plus i think the overlays help with flicker
im just looking into the possibilities of printing overlays:
