Has anyone had experience making an XE1541 cable and used an old pc to load games to a c64 using 64hdd software?

I know you can get the SD2 whatever cards for these machines, but a DIN plug, cable and LPT plug is gloriously ghetto for me!

I bought one years ago, and converted it to an XM1541 cable (swap 2 wires over), but I found 64HDD a bit flaky. It might have been the parallel port on the PC I was using, of course, but I just transfer to actual 5 1/4" disks these days.

get a SD2XXX

the only alternative id consider is something like omniflop, which will write some esoteric formats using a PC. your mileage may vary but ive done beeb and atari disks with it.
