You have to read this one to believe it - a 5GB hard drive which actually turns out to be a USB key and a big pair of bolts for weight

I don't know whether to be amused or saddened or what by that!!

The comments just get ridiculous and descend pretty quickly into Chinese bashing, however, I did spot one comment with a very valid point. The original article states that when storing a movie on the device you only get the last 5 minutes of the movie. Now, that's not possible is it? If you don't have an entire movie file it becomes unreadable doesn't it?

That one comment casts doubts on the credibility of the whole article to me. Though even if that article is proved to be a hoax, I'm sure there are many, many more similar genuine instances

The sad thing is, that most of what we buy comes from China. Ok, so yer iPads/Pods/Phones all come from China but that's fine as it's backed by a reputable company that will instantly swap it out if you were sent a bootleg (not gonna happen from the Apple store!). Trouble is, you only have to look for Arduino or FPGA on eBay to see that 90% of it is shipping direct from Hong Kong and there's absolutely nothing we can do about it. I wish there was!

[RANT] The UK polititians keep going on about bringing industry and invention back to the UK. I really can't see it myself, but I bloody wish it would happen. Just think what we could all get up to if you could go to a company in <insert major UK city here> and order 100 custom made PCBs at a price that is workable. Actually, scrub that, any price! It's just NOT going to happen in our lifetime though, is it?? [/RANT]

video files will work out the syncronisation and play (usually), so if it was indeed in 'loop mode', then only the last bit written would work.

neat con - although easier to do the 'reprogram 2gb usb flash to pretend to be 32gb', as a lot of people bung them in their camera's and never ever try to use past the first 2gb! (my mate got one of those and tried to copy about 16gb of movies to it for his pad thing)

doesn't mean that there are any more crooks in china than anywhere else, and I must admit on the only time I had a problem with a chinese seller on ebay, he refunded me very quickly AND sent me a replacement! (you don't get that with UK sellers)

Can't buy much here now. I've started buying most of my arcade cr@p from the states and occasionally hong kong. Most of the classic car parts I need seem to made (to poor standards) in places like India. If you want a high voltage unit for a monitor you usually have to buy it from the States only to find a 'made in China' sticker on the back.

UK PLC - turn the lights off on the way out.

There are plenty of video players that can play video files that are only partial. Most of them on Linux do and I'm sure there are also some for Windows.
