I finally picked up a B&O TV for retro gaming goodness.
I've been on the lookout for a decent 4:3 CRT for years now. Although I would have preferred a later model Sony Trinitron , I've always liked the look of the B&Os - very stylish and even 'tatable. It was interesting to learn that even the 21" B&Os lived in the same price bracket as LG's 55" OLEDS when they were new. Anyway, in the end, it was one of them that came up, about an hour's drive away from where I live. By an amazing coincidence, I had an errand to run within a mile or two. So a detour was arranged and the TV was acquired.
It's an MX 4000 in excellent cosmetic nick (yay) but revision 1.0 (boo), and came with two remotes - the Video Terminal and the Beolink 5000, both of which seem to work.
Nevertheless, setting it up to work with my SNES (with RGB SCART) has been a real bee-hatch.
I've finally been able to get it to recognise the SNES on AV1 by assigning AV1 to V.Tape-1, and AV2 to Decoder. Now, here's the tricky bit.
If I select V.Tape-1 on the remote, I get a very clear and stable picture, but unless I whack colour and contrast up to max, it's a bit washed out. The picture is also a bit squished top and bottom, and shifted to the left, leaving a 1cm black band down the RHS.
If I then press A.Tape, the image shifts to the right, so the black band is almost gone, it's also much more vibrant - but it's not as clear and the sound disappears. WTF!
Does anyone know how to sort this out?
I've read that to access the service menu, I need to short some pins inside the back of the TV, but it's not obvious how to access them. Has anyone tried this? Is it easy?
Any tips appreciated.
