TOTALLY OFF TOPIC flame, but a flame nonetheless, and it ties in nicely with what I was saying about classic car owners

Check out this thread I've just exchanged with this chap on ebay, hopefully not someone from here either... (read bottom to top):

Dear daveh2408,
Well, if that is your position then I can do little to help. However, if you don't feel you can answer my questions or at least challenge my logic then I don't find your argument very convincing.
All the best
Karl.

Dear ksarcade,
In the 25 years I have owned classic cars I have been disapointed by people misrepresenting parts. Please dont reply.

Dear daveh2408,
Hi,
It's described '2500 PR / TR6', logically '/'means 'OR', I have explained in the auction the history of the unit and the uncertainty of it's pedigree.
For the sake of argument if you had a pattern or remanufactured part fitted to your car (highly likely if you actually run a classic) how, exactly would you describe it? It's still a direct replacement for your car, say, for example a 2500 or TR6, yet it isn't made by Triumph. However it is a direct replacement therefore it seems fair to prefix it with a known model name. Perhaps you could care to explain to me the differences between the PI block and the TR6? Did it have a nitrided crank, different bearing widths, block strength or material? AFAIK the difference is the cam + head and since neither are included in this auction I don't see what the issue is. However, I may copy your initial email and my response into the auction if that helps.
I would point out that in the 15+ years I've owned classic cars that it's exactly this kind of attitude that results in good core stock going into landfill and for a £4.99 opening bid I don't need the hassle. I am increasingly understanding of those who destroy their spares when they tire of the hobby, which is a shame.
Regards
Karl.

Dear daveh2408,
Hello,
Thanks for your message. I don't recall saying it was a genuine TR6 engine; I would suspect there is no significant difference between the block crank and pistons of a late TR6 and a 2500 PI and could be considered a compatible replacement in any case. I actually have no idea what car it was fitted to new since it came from a modified Spit6. However, looking around the internet for this prefix suggests it was at least a PI engine but frankly it was pretty difficult to read off the block and it comes with a low starting price for the reasons above.
Regards
Karl.

Dear ksarcade,
If this is a genuine TR6 engine the serial number will start with CP or CR. No TR6 bengines had a serial number beginning with any other prefix.
