Hi,

Funny that there are far more posts here than I've received by email subscription (which is about 4 in the last 2 years). Thought UKVAC was all dead and gone. Lets see if RSS feeds works better.

Anyway, some of you may remember a fellow by the alias XY-Man. Last I saw of him was a few years ago as he travelled through San Jose (dropping off a Lazarian for me) on his way to LA. He has a machine that he owes me and I'd rather like to re-establish communications regarding it. Anyone have any recent contact with him - an email address or telephone number maybe?

Thanks,

Paul.

He did serface on klov a few weeks back - Oll spotted him - but I think he had the account suspended within a couple of days as he was basically saying yes he'd sell a machine to buyer-A then getting a better price from buyer-b, ignoring buyer-a then starting to talk to buyers c & d and so forth!!!!

He did have a phone number on the thread or people on it had it but he obviously vetted his calls...

Good luck- if oyu need Oll to help, hes got a pretty big (actually HUGE) day ahead of him so dont expect to hear from him I'd say :)

Welcome back to here - yes the list is dead - only I can post on it now as its locked down ready for eventual deletion - RSS from here or use the email notification in the control panel to select which sections you want individual emails from :)

Cheers R.

Well this brings back some memories for me, mostly frantic anxious ones admittedly! What I always wondered was how on earth he managed to ship his entire collection to the US from Manchester, or whether some of it got left behind. I'm sure some other people here remember him moving stuff from his place in Salford to somewhere near Ardwick. I vividly remember inviting myself along for the day in a bid to try and grab a machine I was owed. The new 'unit' was really big, with machines stacked around two floors. The area itself was a particularly bad bit of Manc and I can remember circling the unit in a series of cars and a truck until he'd decided the coast was clear to enter. Given the sheer number of machines he'd amassed for himself, the logistics of any move must have been horrendous and expensive. I'd love to know what happened to those machines. Stuff I can remember included:

Spare Harrier sit down deluxe,DOT, Tron, Lunar Lander, Thayers Quest, Stern Orbitor (pin), Sega Holoseum (!) etc etc

Wow, you really, have killed it. Funnily enough posting something on there was how I got the SR sitdown... anyhow, I take it there's no way of putting a helpful return email on there pointing people to the forum rather than just the standard yahoo bounceback otherwise you are relying on people to actually visit the homepage on yahoogroups to know where to go.

I've no idea, but to be fair it has been years now since the list was retired in favour of the forum. I know not everyone was in favour of the forum (including me at the time!) but as we've proven time and time again, you will never get a 100% majority on any decision. And nowhere is this more true than in the world of UKVAC. Game on anyone??

To be fair, 95% of the mails to the list over the last few years have been off topic. The remainder have been the same half a dozen people who just don't come here for whatever their reason may be.

As far as list Vs. forum, I appreciate that a forum isn't to everyone's taste but you can have such massively richer content in a forum. I personally think a mailing list is just a hangover from the 90's. While you still have to come to the forum to post, subscribe to every forum. You will then get every single post in your mailbox, just like a mailing list

This front page has been like this for several years now:

But I get your point - I have posted a final message and made it a special notice so in theory every member on the mailing list will now have been notified Ive shut it

Actually whilst I'm at it:

You can see the usage is pretty poor of the mailing list (not much more than a dozen posts for 2-3 years):

But Lest us not forget the original original ukvac administered (dont accuse him of moderating for gods sakes) is still "alive and well" if you really want a mailing list fix... But I expect you'll be on your own...

So virtually dead for 5 years.... But if anyoneis still a member on that list can they perhaps copy/paste this email on my behalf and JC will *never& let me back in:

Dear Old-skool VACers!

This time has come to resurrect your cabs, your interest and your membership in what is THE ukvac!

You will find us - and be made most welcome - at

Well, RSS doesn't appear to have worked any better since I have nothing in the feeds this morning despite all the replies above.

Thanks for the replies re:xy. I'll see what I can dig up.

Regards,
Paul.
