I've just sold something of fairly high value and have received an email saying I need to update my ID info in order to get payout. There's a matching ebay message I received but I'm still suspicious. Says I may need to upload photo ID which seems stupid as they don't know what I look like.

Is this genuine?

Cheers

ok, looks like it's genuine because it's also telling me to update on my selling page.

So definitely genuine then?

Must be. Seems to be a random thing people are getting since managed payments came in. It also asks me to update details when I log into my selling page. It list displays all the details about me and says if everything is CORRECT, then I need send ID. I realize now they mean a driving licence or passport. Problem is I don't have a passport and my driving licence recently expired, and still waiting for new one. However I just made a minor change to the details they had, and it seems to have worked (fingers crossed).

Basically, they can hold back payments until photo ID is confirmed. If you don't have any, you're screwed, by the looks of it.

BTW, does ebay have a phone number where I can actually get to speak to someone, and not just a flipping recorded message saying to look at the help pages on the website?

Ebay have a live chat or a system where they'll ring you back (between certain hours).
Live chat looks like it's active at the moment..

Go to ebay's homepage, at the top, help and contact, then I click on fees credits overview (in the blue box), scroll down and there's a "chat with us" option.

Thanks. I'll give that a go if I have further issues.
