So as you can tell from my post count I'm pretty new (on here and a few other arcade/gaming forums), however like many of you I have had a passion for gaming and arcade machines of all types for many years, ever since I first saw Space Invaders and that really cool Battlezone that was a bit too high for me to look through, without getting a bad neck.

I used to collect many retro items starting with computers then consoles until I finally realised that I was really after the "arcade experience" with real life machines restored and working from the 80-90's ..

So I joined this and a few other forums with the hopes of starting my journey towards gaming Ecstasy, seemed as I had to start somewhere

... So I bought a couple of machines and have started restoring them, even bought a pinball machine (opps).

Along the way I have bought bits and pieces from here and other forums, not really having any problems, however today I received a rather startling wake up call from one forum that took exception to my 1 post answer to a sale thread...

Frankly I have no intention of posting the same thing on lots of different forums just to seem "legit" or into the "scene". I'm human, like 50% of you (I know who you are.. !!), so I understand the response, but would rather have had them PM me or something less damn childish.. We all started somewhere.. :(

Is this common have I stepped into a closeted social order and then waltzed all other peoples egos, if so.. Sorry

Anyway I'm ranting and raving about another forum.. The point is.. Out of all the forums I have joined so far this and only one other have been open and welcoming so..

Thank you.. :)

We try to be as welcoming and easy going as possible here mate. I still know not alot really about the technical bits but would always feel comfortable asking questions on here as I know I would get great advice

Anyone else trying to work out the forum?
smiley9.gif
So far its not here or J+ (10 post rule) so I'm stuck

I judge it by the fact if they're like that then leave them with it, pretty sure you'll have a nice cheap pcb that'd they'd all love on there and won't get to buy it at a good price. Also you may have popped into the tech bit to answer a question.... but not now.
For me its all about the games

Quite a few places would see is as a bit rude to just come on to buy/sell without even posting a Hello thread.
some of them can get a bit childish though. but personally I always make it a rule to post in the Hello/Newbie section before jumping straight to the sale sections.. even if that's all I went there for lol :)

Hand on heart I probably should have posted in the hello section, but even so that's 1-3 posts, not sure it would have made a massive difference, besides would I spam the forum for an hour before offering to purchase something? That's just wrong surely.. Ho hum..

Anyway I have vented my frustration now and I shall not be visiting the said forum again...

Surely, the bigger the audience the better when it comes to selling things. When it comes to most items, then you normally pay up front or cash on collection. Sounds like people are being a bit clique perhaps?
I just stick to one forum these days (this one), I don't have the time to continually post in multiple forums, plus I prefer to "belong" to one community rather than part of many. I'm sure I miss out on many items for sale, but it's no biggy.

Anyway, good luck with your collecting, welcome to the forum, there's lots of technical people around willing to help.

I know which forum you are referring too, and I saw your post.

If you look at the thread after your posts you are welcomed to the forum and prompted to introduce yourself. I don't think anyone was trying to be rude in any way, although it might have been taken like that.

I think most forums want you to participate in some way, rather than signing up, jumping into the sale section and buying stuff, and then disappearing without actually contributing anything. So it is not eliteism.

Unfortunately there are people in this hobby that want to make a quick buck, and will do just that, so most forums will try and discourage it in some way.

I think you have just got off on the wrong foot with that forum. Try again. It is a great place.

Also in this hobby you will find some people that stir up crap and deflect it elsewhere, or are just plain weird. The less said about that the better.

Wiseman Purity speaks sense.

Sheesh!

I think that any hobby which involves collecting anything tends to attract a fringe of people who you really f**king wouldn't want to meet in real life, but on the Internet everyone can be the arsehole they'd like to be so it's no-holds barred for some of them.

Is someone going to mention the site? My internet-arsehole-but-not-a-bad-guy-in-real-life OCD needs to know :)

(PS Usual Friday night, post 9pm rules pertain)

Really difficult to get a vibe from peoples post on forums sometimes. Some people come across as total tools, but are probably OK in the real world and some are probably best suited to appearing on Jeremy kyle.

Try and avoid the negativity and keep at it - coming from a guy like me who has a mental meltdown yearly. Lol.

Ive just seen said post, but yet items were advertised here first..
Feel free to send me a PM,but it is just a normal thing to do really on the forums as we usually sell for less to members, and i think sometimes everyone worries a dealer/non collector could just butt in..

it is nice to know who is who etc too

dont be put off,as there a very good bunch of likewise collectors too
