hi and welcome to the forum

the jamma harness in a ki is quite simple to install depending on how much of the loom has been hacked

maybe you want to start a thread and throw up some pictures
I recently rewired my ki cab so can help you out somewhat

Cheers guys!

Thanks for the hello's!

I will deffo take some pictures of the cab, it needs some touching up, new perspex control panel, new buttons etc.

The inside wiring is a bit hectic at the minute, very confusing! It did work great with a street fighter 2 board and mortal kombat board but the harnness was abit touchy so it needed a fiddle to get the sound working, cut now theres no power going to the boards at all, just a loose connection im sure but i figured its a great a excuse to put a new harness in ad tidy it all up.

Im just a bit weary of the tube as my mate says it can kill me! and its very very close to the monitor board!!!!!!

i did buy a happy fish board but the board was all out of sync and i dont know what monitor model ive got and couldnt find the sync controls. Chap i bought it off was really unhelpful.

LOL!

will take pics later today!

Loving this forum already!

get some photos of the inside of the cab and get a tech thread started

I am sure unless the cab loom has been hacked up that the monitor power loom is separate from the JAMMA loom and you should not really need to touch it or the monitor

Hi

re-wiring should not be too much of a problem, just checked through my old pics and it looks like the power for monitor & marquee etc runs up the right hand side and the main Jamma loom goes on the left (looking from the back of the machine)

it should look something like this

ki2 is slightly different to a ki cab (uses a different psu setup) but mostly the same, i.e monitor loom is the same, not sure on the originality of that monitor you got in there.

that loom looks a mess, if you disconnect from the psu and the control panel and coin door it should come out you may need to transplant some plugs from the original loom too the new one though

I also have a complete unhacked control panel for a ki2 here that I may be convinced to part with if you need it

Math,

There are wires all over the shop, loads of spliced wires and all sorts of crazy stuff going on!

Lol the KI2 control panel sounds interesting, i was going to get a new piece of perspex cut for mine.

Is it easy enough to plug the monitor in without electrocuting myself?

!

Its going alright!

Im keeping it as a jamma cab, running mame through a j-pac.

Got some touch ups to do on the artwork. Bit pissed off with the guy i bought it off, who, incidentally actually is registered on this site! He told me it was all working fine and showed it me running a sf2 bootleg, the horizontal sync was a bit out and i mentioned it and he said, oh you can just tweak that no worries. Turns out the h-sync pot on the board doesnt work! ! ! ! !And the PSU blew about a day after having it so bought a replacement from the states, and the wiring was death trap! so that took a bit of effort to get sorted!

In short ive felt like smashing it up with a sledgehammer a fair few times, but its all playable now!!!

just getting a few bits n bobs as and when to possibly retrofit it back to a dedicated KI2 cab with the mame pc inside as extra!

Most Midway cabs of that era always can do with NOS sticks and buttons, and if the wiring is a little hacked it's worth putting a new JAMMA loom in IMO.

I think having it as a KI machine with the ability to use it for MAME also is the best of both worlds.

Hi, and welcome. I think your killer instinct is not so good with arcade games. By the way, what game you love the most, and you play better ?!

I disagree, I think this is a fine cab for a first attempt at creating a mame cab.

Firstly, don't be scared of the monitor, just respect the voltages it produces. I've had a few shocks before from the neck coil, but the serious voltages are in the anode wire. For now assume the monitor is fine and leave it and work on everything else, and if you still have problems that you suspect are due to the monitor then seek advise first, but it's all fixable with the know how.

It would be a good idea to replace the wiring loom, that way it will give you an understanding of how your new cab works, this loom doesn't carry any scary voltages either. A new/modified control panel is easy enough to create and make you proud of your new creation.

I'm more than happy to help with any assistance you need along the way as we've all been there at some point.
