Hey,

Does anyone have any experience with repairing a Famicom Disk System?

I recently purchased one and it had a broken belt, I have replaced this but it still isn't working. Any idea on what to look at next?

Thanks

I don't think there is any power going to the unit. I have tried both batteries and PSU but I still don't get any light / noise from the disk drive.

I think I will have to get me a multimeter and check some things. I've never done it before lol, I will check youtube for a tutorials.

Thanks

Would the brass wheel on the motor rotate still if the belt is drive belt is broken?

I'm trying to check if the disk drive is receiving power from the main board. I brought a multimeter and after watching numerous youtube vids I still don't feel confident on how to use it lol.

Yes the motor should spin, its a really simple drive mechanism, the read head is fixed to read the disk at the same time it rotates, this is why its crucial that the spindle is aligned with the head. a normal floppy drive would have a way of moving the read head independent of the rotation.

Sounds to me that you have a power issue, use your meter to check the power from the batteries is getting to the PCB and also to the motor, the black and red wires that are soldered to the motor.

The drive also has 3 switches that control the drive, so you'll need a disk in and the sled to be down before it powers up.

Thanks for your reply.

Ok, I'm really useless with a multimeter however I feel confident that power from the batteries are going to the power board. I tested the 2 points (circled) and there was just over 9.5v. How would I now test that the power is going to the cable that attaches to the disk drive? Also how would I then test that the power is going to the motor?
I'm still trying to learn how to use the multimeter lol

Thanks
