So I included Frogger in my Konami/Stern multigame around 6 years ago but never did a standalone freeplay / high score save kit. Until now. Most of the code was already done but it did need adapting to work on a Frogger pcb (with its different memory map), and with my high score save board.
Uses my Z80 single ROM/high score save board like the rest of my mods, and adds a few features:-
- Freeplay maintaining attract mode (select using "1 coin 2 plays" coinage DIPs), and just press P1 or P2 start to begin a game
- Saves high scores to serial EEPROM
- Has 2 "versions" of Frogger, the original and the bugfixed (https://forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/frogger-bugs-descriptions-and-fixes.482765/). Choose by moving joystick right or left at power-up which one you want to run (or it remembers your selection from last time)
- Separate high score tables for original and bugfixed versions. You can reset each high score table individually by holding joystick up on power-up
Photos show attract mode running with freeplay, the 2 separate high score tables for original and bugfixed versions (eagle-eyed will notice HI-SCORE and IH-SCORE, that was just for me when I was testing so I could easily see which version is currently running, it has been changed for the final version of code!), and the kit installed on a Sega/Gremlin Frogger pcb.
