Any GC owners using a Datel Action Replay/SD gecko with SWISS to run games from an SD card?

Think I know what I need from reading tutorials, but before I shell out for all the bits I wondered how well this set up performs. I know there are some game compatibility issues but assuming I get a fast enough SD card for the iso files, do the games that work run smoothly? What SD card(s) are people using for the iso files (I know I need a standard SD for the initial boot up steps).

If this isn't the best set up, does anyone recommend an alternative?

Thanks.

Going to keep an eye on this one. Ive got a xeno chip in my gamecube and have been looking into this myself. I currently play my backups on full size dvds, because i have a viper case which allows that, but you just end up with a pile of disks!

From what ive seen, the games run fine. You can get the equipment quite cheap on ebay. I think its an sd memory card reader, and there was someone selling the swiss boot disk as well.

See what people come back with i guess.

Yep I have this and was able to run the odd bit on a cube that had a failing drive.

In the end though, I just bought a replacement laser assembly and fitted it - it was less hassle than all the faffing.

Really, the SD loader only has minimal bandwidth compared to reading from disc, so is fine for slow loading stuff that sits in memory, like homebrew or emulators.

It stinks when streaming video, or streaming game data.. like a lot of games do.

And you can pop the fastest SD card on planet earth in there... the bottleneck of the memory card port specs is the issue.

Cheers Flinnster, reading around it does sound like a modded Wii would be the better option for running GC games, but really want to stick with my cube.

I've had a look at the compatibility list for GC games and most of the games I want to try are "working" or with limitations, so it's tempting to take the plunge...although the cost of a modded Wii is probably well below that of the AR disc and SD cards...will think on.

Thanks again for the replies.

Have to say a lot of people do get their Cube fix on the Wii using Nintendont etc..

Also you can do progressive out from a Wii, which is cheaper than the official Gamecube Component Cable.

Can't say I've spent too long looking into Cube emulation on the Wii as I've owned most of the titles I wanted for a couple of decades now. But yeah, certainly there are some import / oddball / niche titles that I intend to check out on the wii at some point!
