Hi all,

New joiner but long time Arcade fan here.

I started gaming on the Atari 7800 and then a ZX81 with a friend playing 3D maze and trying not to wobble the RAM pack on the back which caused it to crash. I progressed onto the Spectrum when my Dad won one in a competition and lost far too many hours gaming on that, but always loved the Arcades best. My favourites are more in the old-school category I guess, Space Invaders, Galaga, Galaxian, Frogger and Pac-Man, 1941 & 1943.

A few years ago I bought an old butchered Golden Tee Cab which had been mostly gutted. I did a bit of a resto, but I has a LCD screen (that I already had laying around) a Pandora box and a new CP that I made. I really wanted it as a Upright Arcade Cab. I refurbed the scrolling top score with my own message scroll display, which was a bit of fun, added some lighting, marquee and a Sub-Woofer for decent sound. Maybe I will see about fitting a CRT at some point. Here it is now:

Anyway, back when I was about 10 years old my uncle converted part of his garage into a bar for parties and he had a Arcade Cocktail Table with Asteroids. I remember spending hours playing it and not wanting to go home. Ever since then I have always wanted one some day, kind of a bucket list thing.

Well I recently got the chance and picked up a 1979 Taito Space Invaders Cocktail table this weekend. It still has the original top glass with Taito etching, original Hitachi colour CRT and Toei C14C-5090 chassis by the looks of it. The CP's look original but someone has previously removed the original game board and it has an empty Jamma harness, which I why I guess they added another button to the CP. The Chrome legs have been painted black and are rusting again and there is slight rust on the bottom tub as is also usual. Here are a couple of pictures.

Now the refurb fun starts.
The monitor works, but I suspect the Horizontal Sync isn't working. Hard to be sure without a TPG or Game in it. TPG ordered.
Voltages on the PSU look good even under load, which was a surprise.
Still has the original Japanese Speaker and 100v Fan. the speaker is good, the fan not so much.
The Cab locks (7800) had been drilled out which is a shame, i need to find some replacements for those as they look ugly. Any suggestions welcome.
I would love to put the original game board back, but I imagine they are rarer than hens teeth. Also, when finished, I would love to get this in the house and a multi-game would have a greater WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor), so i will probably go that way. I need to find a decent X in 1 Jamma board that at least has my fav games from the list above and in horizontal format with the RGBS 15KHz video output. Again any suggestions welcome.
I suspect a re-cap (and maybe a new Flyback would be handy if available), but it feels like I possibly need to get a stable image first. i am keeping this as a CRT cab for sure.

I would love to keep and restore this as original as possible apart from the multi-game compromise and the inevitable CP impact that will have.

Sorry for the long first post, anyone with experience, advice or useful parts to help refurb, I would love to hear from you all.

Welcome. Monitor looks like it's working from the pic. Just need to adjust the Screen pot on the flyback so that those retrace lines aren't visible.

Thanks. I am resisting the urge to tweak anything until my Test Pattern Generator arrives and I know I have a good signal injected.
Tbh I was expecting the horizontal hold to be the main offender, butbI will keep the Screen pot on the Flyback in mind too.
I appreciate the feedback, thanks.

Hi welcome
I'm newish ere too.
Liked the bit about when you was a kid and being glued to the Asteroids cocktail cabinet and not wanting to go home, and now finally picking one up. That's the arcade passion and nostalgia bug we all suffer with on here, Awesome.
Gonna look pucker when fully restored.
