Hello all from Brum, I've been a MAME user since......well a very very long time. I built my first project a very long time ago, that being a 2 player controller hooked up to a SFF pc.

I bought an old megatouch cab a long time ago which I still plan on making into a 2 player arcade machine at some point 😬

Not so long ago I bought a faulty 1 player arcade cabinet which I was going to completely overhaul into a 2 player cabinet. BUT I managed to get it working so now it's a case of updating, tweaking and fine tuning plus a load of cosmetics.

Its running off a Windows XP PC and has a touch screen. Much to my delight it has a fully configured Simple Touch FE with Pub Quiz games, MaLa running an older MAME set and a Jukebox with a ton of old people music as the kids would say.

I'm not tech savvy at all beyond the basics of setting up software and building hardware, and besides MAME I'm clueless with the rest of the emus.

Hopefully I can get help and guidance from fellow nostagics on here as I want to swap out the pc currently in the cab without losing the Acquired softwares and their functionality.

I'll post a pic of my recent acquisition later all being well, it's in need of some cosmetic updates. From what I gather its best to keep it on XP as 7 and newer may cause issues?

I'm overly chuffed with the purchase because as well as the Touchscreen and Software it came with an SSD, a small sound mixer, amp and decent speakers fitted.

Question is will XP 64bit also lead to issues with say Simpletouch FE and The Pub Quiz games ? Is there any point going to XP 64 bit or a newer OS?
I reckon 2GB Ram is colossal in terms of retro games etc is there any reason to swap out the PC at all?

Have a 1 player already done but may need to replace one side of the cab as bottom has damage(some clown put castor wheels on at differant heights)also may need to recap or change crt as it takes at least 5-10 min for full colour pic to appear.also the control panel layout has the buttons too far to the right for my liking, also gonna create a new marquee,a fair bit to do when i have time.keep things posted when you make a start with yours, would love to see what you do with it.

Love it. Much like you I started messing around with MAME donkeys years ago, then built myself a CP using proper arcade components hooked up to the PC with an ipac.

Wasn’t until years later I got into the real stuff. It’s a super slippery slope 😂

There will definitely be people here who can help, but as a lot of your questions revolve around effects of upgrading OS etc, you might want to try an emulation forum too.

Welcome, and looking forward to seeing your progress with it.

What games will you be playing most?

Oooh can u recommend an EMU forum for this?

I was smashing my way through pre historic isle yesterday but really want to get it into 2P mode so Killer Instinct is top of that list for sure.

A.S.O. is another one I really love, Terra Cresta, R Type, 1943 etc... the list is endless given the sheer volume of games I currently have lol. I have not even looked into the other EMUs for the various consoles yet so I can definitely say I can see me slowly slipping down that slippery slope

Still using a PIII running DOS and FEMAME as a frontend. Used to have the jukebox etc. but wanted a no mouse/no GUI/fast booting/arcade only machine with purely 78-85 type games. Sadly, also in Birmingham.

Welcome I have SFF's running in my cabinet with latest O/S. I am just about to try a newer coinops build on it that dowloaded yesterday.

So there is a specific Coinops deluxe 20225 ARCADE which is 4:3 and with consoles ripped out.

Wheras my cab currenly runs a coinops build with the consoles but I dont tend to play them on the arcade machine, so will copy and paste make a quick change to the ini file and off we go.

I dont use arcade punks but doe sdescibe it better

Happy to help if you get stuck . Hardest thing is finding a nice 1 slot card for your sff :)
