hi, I was originally registered on here a few years ago but have had more available time to get back into the hobby And start buying some more boards.
i Recently purchased a 1942 board, was described as working but had graphic glitches and no sound which I’m going to start working on at some point., when I went to collect it the seller asked if i wanted to take the cabinet it was in as he was doing A house clearance and dumping most Of the stuff . So I came away with this cocktail cabinet as part of the purchase which looks to have been donkey kong originally ?

could be a nice project but it’s going to need a lot of work, missing its glass top and has been painted thickly around the wood edges instead of the original vinyl.

has anyone done any similar projects like this with helpful advice ?
thanksIMG_6801.jpeg

Welcome to the forum :)

The cocktail cab looks a nice project to get you started. What is it like inside the table? Are a lot of the original parts still there or has it been butchered?

I think the original game was a Radar Scope. Are you hoping to restore the table back to it’s original state? Perhaps the first step is to see what original parts are left inside in the machine and what parts you can potentially source before deciding what to do with it.

I’m not sure what I will be doing with it, I Couldn’t let it be tipped but as you have said it would depend on the costs involved and how much time I can invest in it. Is there a market for parting it out.

at the moment it’s got the original monitor however this has screen burn for the 1942 game that it’s been running, the 1942 logo is visible and the score and lives are very visible so a replacement monitor will need to be sourced.

it doesn’t have its glass top but does have the chrome fittings for the corners I found them in the coin tray, , the speaker system is in there and the power supply looks to have been replaced with a newer version. It has its coin mechanism.
I can’t check it much further as it’s a non jamma connector and I have to order an adapter for the pcb to confirm the sound and graphic issues aren’t connected to the cabinet.

I assume the biggest cost would be a replacement monitor and the glass at this point.

Isolation transformer, service switch and speaker look to be the only original internals left there. Cant tell but looks like a replacement screen

I have a very scratched glass top for one of these but i'm in London and by the time you spent the money and effort polishing the glass you could have just got a new piece cut.

Unless you have a specific desire to restore it to the original Nintendo spec then its just as easy to probably just tidy it and use as a jamma wired cocktail. Looks like its already done but not sure if its working?

I’ll have to do a little research as to what works, I’m assuming the pt7a psu that’s in there is original but isn’t working anymore, the pcb does fire up but with graphical glitches and no sound, im Waiting for a jamma adapter to confirm whether it’s the board or cocktail with my seperate supergun, the monitor does appear original but the screen burn isn’t going to make it worthwhile to keep unless they can be split up for parts ? I don’t want to go down the route of an lcd replacement but trying to keep costs down depending how much a glass cover would cost to replace

Original monitor will be in a complete metal encasement probably with a plastic window on one side.

Looks like 2 Switching PSUs in there but neither are originals.

Glass cover shouldn't cost you much and I may have some metal retaining brackets for the corners. I over ordered.

Send some pics when you get the monitor out.

Yes, it’s sat in its cage and Has its tinted plastic window along with 4 chrome corners that were left in the coin tray thanks for the offer though, the corner on the cabinet are rounded but all the vinyl wrapping and wood has been removed is the glass a complete rectangle or has rounded corners ? looking at the wiring which is loose in places would the original power supply be used for the monitor ?
