I've had a 128k Spectrum (Toastrack) for maybe 20 years, found it recently but it no longer powers up. :(

I've tried a few of the suggestions I've found online for similar issues but this one just produces a wavy black background with a white box, where the menu would be. or a black background with white blocks on the screen as per the screen pic. seems theres a lack of sync, and this is via a composite cable plugged in the back. (I couldn't find an RF cable :( )

The reset button seems to work as the screen resets and then one of the 2 things pop up.

I've tried swapping the Z80 with a known working one.

Swapped the voltage regulator and the 2 transistors near the coils.

Dumped the Eprom and checked it against a dump from the net, and tried burning the dump from the net and tried that in the spectrum.

I have also tried piggy banking a NOS ram chip over the ones on the board.

The ULA seems to get quite warm with an IR thermometer it gets to around 50c, not sure if this is normal though?

It's a revision 6 board if that helps

It's unlikely that any of the few logic chips in there have gone bad, so i'd try another ULA if you possibly can. Also might still be a ram chip that's gone bad in such a way that piggybacking can't overcome, you get that sometimes with arcade pcbs.
