Just recieved email from Hermes regarding delivery and Corona virus . They are doing non contact delivery and they will leave your parcel in a safe place even if you are in , so not knocking or ringing door bell.
Best though is this :

'For parcels requiring a signature, our couriers can temporarily do this on behalf of the customer to avoid unnecessary contact via hand-held devices. This will only happen when the customer opens the door and gives their name for security reasons. The courier will stay at least two steps away.'

' gives their name for security reasons '!
Most parcels will have their names on them, good job Hermes ain't going to contract for our national security.
Careful if those who use them for arcade stuff, maybe most couriers will be doing it.

I reckon a lot of buying/selling/posting will die off while Coronavirus is about, it going to get to the point there will be no posties delivering or shops open to post stuff at this rate.

Most couriers have been doing this for a while...at least around here anyway, even with signed for stuff...just leave on doorstep in full view and sign the hand held themselves...

They started by going to different neighbours then stopped that and now just deliver regardless

well you can at least save 80p.... as the signature at delivery is a paid service...…..we might be lucky? our Hermes local people are quite good and been agents for a while, and know if I am out they have good sense to leave with neighbours or safely here..and the overall tracked service when sending has improved to often next day or 48 hour so ………see if this stays ok?……I too had that message email.….

but must say ........I once sold a 'quite expensive' professionally signed autographed 2 piece snooker cue in a case ..only 20 miles to travel and thought its ok with Hermes and needed a signature ………. they managed to get the correct road which had named houses and instead of trying a few the taxi driver delivery person decided to stick it through a slightly open window eight houses away from its destination the first house in the lane. (a cul de sac)……….. THIS MIGHT HAVE BEEN OK as the neighbours all or mostly seemed to know each other !!! ???? ****** ???? YES they all knew each other and that house was sometimes occupied by an Arabian businessman from a Chester Shop who visited about once every 2-3 months and stayed over as a holiday home ….

I contacted Hermes who traced the delivery details and their operator in that area...said where the driver had delivered to , which was sort of good ….however IT WAS popped inside through a slightly open window of the porch and just by chance, the buyer found out that a local builder/gardener who also lived in the next road turned out to have a key in case the property needed any repairs or garden work but it took about 2 weeks in total and the guy who bought it could see it in the porch but unable get to it when I told him where it was ……and he meanwhile wondered if the owner might have come past briefly, just kept it and taken it to wherever he normally lives?? as possession law might have been a normal thing with him?…worrying time. but happy eventually !! just some of the end of line delivery drivers a so lazy or expected to do too much? in the time they have..

as for self signing my van has my name and business on it so easy to say they met me... if I was not here? and often the van is

we frequently take in parcels for our neighbours if we are here ourselves as it saves time and inconvenience .. THE ROYAL MAIL ARE WORSE her ..red card through for town collect …. have to ignore the double yellows (always argue permitted loading of goods even if its only a small item as you can't always know what they are holding back?? but maybe subject to other kerb loading restrictions where you are?) or walk about half a mile after paying to park far away
