Old picture but its always the same I repair evil...

Can't see any attraction with any modern machines like those. I never played Fruit Machines but some old ones are real cool, I bought a classic a few weeks back :)

Work, well not Mon-Thursday so I had a trip out today in lovely sun, picked up a new Camera and then had a trip around West Midlands Safari Park, kinda wish I hadn't gone around the drive bit but it was worth it for us to have Giraffe walk right past and stick head in the window, was about 2 hours sitting behind cars so bit like driving on motorway at rush hour, ended up coming out and sitting in traffic for an hour on M42 with multi vehicle smash ups both sides, typical the one day I leave the house which is why most of time I don't

Yeah, 57. How did that happen?! 😭

In Retirement, that’s the official line but still catching up with broken stuff from nearly 50 years fixing arcade & coin operated stuff of every type… The sun was out so my mojo had a kick up the back side and I continued a restore of a kiddie ride car been sat in garden 15 years rusting and neglected..

I started this restore this last week by gently unceasing the rusted door that was solid shut despite no lock fitted and the alloy frame around it flaking paint 100% and dusty white to the touch - aside from the missing lock , just as it left the Sandbank Bakery shop in Towyn all those years ago . I recalled it had a small issue but forgot what that was soon after…door & frame removed and 129 mech tested , seems to take 20p and old pound so there’s hope that’s salvageable?

Anyhow it got tarped over and sprayed the very rusty body to frame Allen hex head screws with WD40 and ignored it till today.

Been a great day on the project today even tho I ache with stiff back and knees and for a few days I have had left leg ham string tendenitis ( never heard of it before but hell it hurts to cough bend kneel or walk). , however sun shining got to it and gently hammered the 4mm Allen key into the rusty heads and undid all 4 … cleared the coin door wiring for separation of body from chassis fram and the electrical ‘ engine room ‘ below. Wow ! I couldn’t see the motor for cobwebs , dust , rust and dead leaves blown inside….

Not deterred good old Henry vacuum sucked it all up and turning the belt pulley by hand the motor seemed free moving so I undid it from the timer unit and attached motor direct to a main lead and powered it up ( brave move ). and it ran and rocked the naked chassis fine ( so enthused at this point )

My leg pain went un- noticed as I was becoming charged to continue so it reconnected the timer unit and bared a few wires I had cut temporarily inside the coin door as the whole seat body was off to one side on the patio …..

Flashed a couple of wires to credit and same with start button wires and “presto!” It runs and stops at approx 1 minute but no sound…..

Route out another speaker and we have music and the horn button wires even toots! !

Just got to get busy de-rusting de-oxidising and paint job now (you might think it’s not too rusty a fibreglass ride? But unscrewing the steering wheel, white with alloy oxidation the two bolt just sheared off with decay) and renew some bolts and minor refurb issues ….. Not a bad day at all …..AT HOME which is as far as I now travel for the purpose of working!

Now …. My reward … the wife too was busy lifting all her 400+ coloured pooltable balls from the garden bed they occupy for their biennial Fairy-soapy wash and weed removal .. so she too gets a treat !

My middle daughter is 43 today so a good family meal out tonight - sizzling half chicken on peppers & onions hot plate with garden salad fries and onion rings for me and a tikka feast for her and about half the family in a booked table in the pub ..

Winter SAD is behind us and April sunshine so welcome …. What a happy day in all !

The impossible we do strait away but miracles like this restore take a little bit longer. A few more days like today and youngest grandson and first great grandson will have another great toy in grandad & nana’s garden ?

@Bods

We get the odd video here & there & I usually get to run it up the 4p driver was set up for China so had a box that needed to be added to each one in the floor to make them a bit longer for the Western gamer.

“Just the ‘odd’ video 😂” @Chihiro

I can imagine a few younger collectors on here drooling & thinking ….. “wow ! A 4 piece speed driver 5 … if only I could get it in my house or dads garage? “ tho they may of course be ordered by separate buyers? DONT THEY JUST SMELL GREAT THO … like if you ever get a brand new car ? As first owner they just have an aroma never repeated later down the line…

While I have been lucky to own lots of twin units sega rally , Daytona , sw pod racer, rave racer, fast n furious bikes, need for speed carbon & underground , time crisis 2/3 and many others often more than one pair ….. only on 2 occasions I recall having 4 in a row ?

Those were final lap 2 (2 pairs) and Manx tt (2 pairs) all in one place while we once had 2 pairs of Daytona sd in one location , due to space they remained 2 seperate pairs at CARTIO the gocart race arena at queensferry/mancot on the Cheshire Fflint border.

Had a few biggies too like 8ft tornado air hockeys, sit in lost world Jurassic park , dual ghost squad dlx, alpine surfer/skier , numerous prize toy cranes single and double etc, and the real monster set up in one arcade we occupied a while 6 gun position Hillbilly Moonshine rifle shooting gallery …. Another big space item is £1 in the slot battery ride on dodgems cars some really heavy stuff to move … made our pooltables installations seem like an easy day!!!!

Not least running around 70-80 fruits and jukes and quizzes etc in pubs always busy busy busy 7 days a week March- November then home sales for Xmas and preseason repairs and redecoration and sorting what to site where for the summer?

RETIREMENT IS A PLEASURE, no stress , just plod along at my own speed and if it gets done fine … if not , well there’s tomorrow , next week , next year… so ! I just realised why I have so much junk around waiting for attention ????? And finally get to play now and then just like always , that’s the real reward . I think !

This type of Driver cabinet seems to be the mainstay in most of the HK arcades I visited recently.

i am ridiculously busy at the moment, my boss if off so i have to step into the void, we have lots of AI POCs going on at the moment and i have a meeting with Microsoft in the morning, plus chasing all kinds of POs up have just come in due to it being the start of the financial year

as well as doing my own job, rather be busy though so if i get asked what i am doing, i can reel off a long list of things, seen too many people not be able to answer that question and be shown the door

Well that would explain a lot of things
