Problem Hypersports Pcb initially OK, then corruption built until now it's madness!?

So I checked voltages before running the hypersports board, it ran and played fine, turned it off.

came back to it later and started a longer play session. Sprites and background started to slightly corrupt after about 10 mins, then more corruption on screens that never had it before until most screens had it. Was playable with some corruption but then became too much although still working.

Now though when turned on I just get a screen full of messed up characters and sprites, sometimes a bad sounding hum from the speakers.

Question is why would the board, suddenly go like this? The game hasn't been run in a long time, seemed great at the start and now seems to have just fallen apart. Heat just broken apart some things? Voltages seemed fine so not sure it was that.

Curious to know what the experts think

Remember these are 40 odd years old and parts just start failing on them. I doubt its anything you have done , you checked the voltages and not much else you can check as such.

What i would do is remove all socketed chips and clean legs and sockets with ipa. Then try it again , if its still back then it would need more looking at.

The screen you are seeing is normally a ram issue on the bottom board (6116 i think if i remember) but again may be TTL as well.

Hope this helps,

Dave.

Thanks, just finding it strange it's been sitting and suddenly gone from working fine to falling apart in a day and making bad sounds. It's not the first board to do that to me recently, it's as if as soon as they warm up it goes pop.

Will look into what you pointed to and cross my fingers 🤞😊
