Greetings fellow enthusiasts! I live outside Washington DC, USA and have been involved with games since the 1980s. In the last couple of years, I discovered a passion for arcade cabinets. It started with an ATGames cabinet and then spread to a number of Arcade 1up cabs (Star Wars, Fast & Furious, Outrun, Ridge Racer, NFL Blitz and a few others). Recently I picked up a 2005 Golden Tee Fore Complete via facebook marketplace and was able to fix the marquee, adjust the voltage, clean the trackball, clean the PCB and cart the 350 pound beast from the seller's house to my garage (with the help of a good friend). I've also dabbled in modding the R2D2 units, Stormtrooper, and Yoda animatronic 'toys' from Home Depot as well. I guess you'd say, I like tinkering with things.

So, I am pleased to be on this forum and look forward to learning and exploring!

I will send up some pics of the Star Wars mods in a couple of weeks. To date, I have upgraded the yoke to the GRS Star Wars Yoke (made of metal). I also installed the gaming box kit (new encoder, power harness to the screen/marquee with the android box), HDMI converter board for the monitor, 2.1 Amp panel, a rumble motor and I built a custom riser as the default riser was still too low for me (I'm 6'0"). In about a week-10 days I'm expecting a PC upgrade to arrive with a new waterfall front edge and additional buttons to play other games as well. Once I get that installed, I'll send those pics up. My spree continues. I managed to get a good deal on a I.T. Silver Strike Bowling arcade. It works pretty well, but it a very slow boot process. I believe the Silver Strike is a 2009 model, with a build date of Dec 20, 2011. It has a nighthawk V6.11 with Boot Agent V1.41.

Do you all recommend upgrading the hard drive (I'm assuming w/o looking it is a slow mechanical drive)? Is it as simple as cloning the drive to an SSD or will the security aparatus IT employs make that a challenge?

Are there any other suggestions for initial fixes that you would recommend as I dive into the Silver Strike cab?

Here is some additional information about the SSB arcade I bought:

I cracked open the case of the SSB and this is what I found:
Intel DG965SS motherboard (according the diagram on the inside of the PC)
Hitachi Deskstar from July 2007 80GB hard drive Model HDS721680PLA380; SATA 3.0 GB/s
CWC 22 06 #19 Chip
Graphics card NX7300LE - TD128EH; appears to be an MSI graphics card
I assume the card with the Qualcomm CDMA modem is the i/o board, but I didn't uncover the PCB #

The age of the hard drive concerns me for sure. Is it safe to clone the drive to a SSD or will the security apparats not accept that?

Just a quick update. I was able to clone my Silver Strike Bowling 80 gig drive to an SSD. Works like a champ and the game loads and runs faster now. Loving it!
