Anybody else notice this get slipped into iOS 4.2 as a freebie? Previously you needed to pay for a MobileMe account, but all you need now is an iOS 4.2 iDevice and a now-free MobileMe account. Login with your Apple ID to any web browser and you get a Google maps view along with the iPad or iPhone and the ability to make it ring, display a message, set/change a passcode or wipe the device.

It's really, really cool - and free now!

iOS 4.2 in general is sweet. I got used to all the iPhone 4 features and would feel a bit disgruntled when using my iPad, but now it's gone to version 4 it's a major improvement on an already excellent device IMO. About the only thing that bugs me is that they've swapped the physical "rotation lock" switch on the iPad into a hardware mute switch. I can see why from a design perspective; it makes the iPad functionality identical to the other iPhones but I keep reaching for the switch and forgetting to set rotate lock through the multi-tasking menu.

Anyway, if you've got the relevant hardware I'd definitely recommend upgrading to iOS 4.2. Tempted to go buy a new printer now too (plus my old LaserJet has finally almost completely died).

One thing to note. In order for iPhone 3g or 3gs to work it seems that you need to activate the MobileMe account with another iOS4.2 device (like an ipad or iphone4). Once you do this you can see your 3g/s just fine. ymmv

Yeah, saw that. Looks good. I'm hanging fire for the minute as I need to make sure that 4.2 works ok with my Parrot car kit. Once I've had time to check that out though I'll be going for it.
