Hands up anyone who got the latest game and waited 5 mins to boot up that fancy new console only to see " UPDATE NOW"

Well the new HALO collection comes in at 45gb on a fancy blue ray disc only to have a 20gb update, now that's a large patch to a new game!

Since getting my Neo cab last year I've been away from my 360 except a quick run around Los Santos but heard story's about big day one patches in a few AAA titles.
Is this the norm now? Do we just put up with it?
Somedays I get a quick hour to play on my 360 and if I see the update req I just switch off knowing that 60mins play would only be about 20mins after logging on line etc.

I just switch my cab on and by the time I've opened my beer I've lost 2 lives!
Arcades are the future!

I was going to buy a PS4 but now I fancy a candy cab!

My rant over!

And in 2 years time your money is still there!
I got an 360 on day one and now you can get one for £60

I'm one of the few who have completely no interest at all in the current generation of games consoles.

I bought a PS2 back in 2002(?), an Xbox 360 in 2005 and a PS3 in 2006. They're all still going strong (talk about tempting fate!) and the latter two in particular also get used for Blu-Ray discs and Netflix.

I've seen the current generation at Play Expo, and yes, the graphics were nice and there were some nice new features, but considering I get more of a thrill playing an original late 70's or early 80's arcade cab than I do playing the latest update to the FIFA franchise, I think I'm best not upgrading just yet.

Whilst it does suck, the XO will download updates whilst off which is cool.

But I have got a day one game a few times for a giant update to be required.. I only have 8Mbps so it sucks hard.Alpha12014-10-17 21:32:09

You can set the PS4 to do that too. However, yes if its a new game then as it does its initial install it spots an update and begins downloading it. One thing it does that I quite like is it will let you play before the update has installed but no online till its up to date. Then again.... I'm on VM and get upto 100mb so its usually ready in time

On the whole new vs old debate... I like having both tbh as sometimes its nice to play some new stuff as there is a lot of good stuff out there. One thing that I do love is the fact Jeff Minter's TxK was on PS plus so I have it running on my Vita (from Jodo) for free

and as much as I love Tempest TxK is amazing and was really good at Play Expo on the OCR

I don't mind patches so much but admit they do get abused. Adding rain and bad weather in Driveclub via a patch weeks after release seems to be taking it a bit far.

"The rain's not ready"

"sh*t. Um..."

"Ah - just patch it in later!"

"High five!"
