I read various forums and mailing lists and most people use a pseudonym.

I go to various shows and all the people I talk to, I know them by real name.

I probably talk to many of them online and real life, but I don't know they're the same person. Also, there's a bunch of people I know from years ago, who have a different pseudonym since the old days...mysticdub for example, I didn't know he and quickcam were the same person until he said so.

The best part of this hobby is the socialising at organised events, which started for me right back at Meet 1.5 in 1999, so why do we all cause this confusion by not using real names online (or a pseudonym in real life)?

Join the revolution of being a real person online, put your name in your sig!

Just a word of warning. The site is now largely open for read only access and searching/indexing by google and other search bots. If you don't want your name found in a google type search you might not want to do this. Sorry to be a party pooper Phil...

Well that's sort of the whole point...as a grown man in his 40's, I don't have any reason to hide behind a nickname. (But worth pointing out to those who have a dubious posting history...)

Shouldn't you accept that anything you put out on the internet is effectively public anyway?

The revolution continues!

Weeeell that depends if you're posting stuff on the Internet when you're supposed to be working. As I do this quite a bit I think I'll stay safely anonymous. No point making it easy for the man to be able to track me and my random musings.

I'll always introduce myself as such if I ever actually make it to a meet one day. Maybe I'll get a *oops* T-Shirt printed up for meets too

basically google ruins everything :) I can find newsgroup posts from a decade+ ago asking very naive questions. Now I wish I *had* hidden behind a pseudonym

Trouble is, everyone knows my pseudonym. Even potential employers because it's also my email address. Should probably correct that in hindsight!
