Largest PCB question? Help Please.

evening,

men of the world, size IS important right?!

i'm building a JAMMA tabletop, Pac-Man style using my limited DIY skill,
i know i could probably buy one cheaper, but this keeps me off the street.
...now i have PCB physical size question.
i want to place vent holes, speakers, psu whilst avoiding the CRT tube and still leave space for the largest PCB's.
i have a Midway Galaxian PCB which is largest of my limited collection,
are there many boards larger than this. (how long is a piece of string, right?)
i my preference is for the older games, as i am of a certain age.
(and the ba$tards stole my money and corrupted my mind)

hope someone can help, thanks for your time.

GaRy:eek:)

Old Atari stuff can be pretty big, but galaxian is admittedly fairly
large...

I seem to remember Rampage being pretty damn big, but i can't imagine you
wanting to put one of them in a cocktail :O)

For anything thats too large you could always use a hacksaw to cut it in
half and then use patch wires to rejoin the two halfs.

Okay, i guess not!!

Martin.

The smallest PCB I ever saw was Snow Bros at 8" X 6".. It was tiny!
I realise that is not what you asked.. In fact it is of no help at all..
In fact.. I am gonna go now before I cause any further degradation to
this fine thread.

There are lots of small boards.

MiniVaders was the smallest i ever owned, but i don't have that anymore.
Basically the size of a jamma connector, squared pretty much IIRC.

And i know thats not the smallest!

Nothing wrong with building one, always wanted to do it myself but having a
wife and two kids means I never get the time.
Love to see some progress pics, got any?
I would think a single board galaxian is a pretty good representation of an
game board but don't forget that some games are made up of 4 layers of the
same size board.

My biggest board is Atari Dig Dug 525mm x 290mm and the smallest is Tetris, which is about 150mm square!

The 48 / 60 in 1's are that small as well.

System 2 would def be the largest... but i doubt you would build a ct with a med rez monitor in it

Smallest board i have come across was the Taito test board that Gud had a while back, but the 48/1 boards a re not much bigger.

I had a Robocop bootleg that was a big motherf**ker (w x l, forgetting h) . Don't have it any more to measure it exactly but I reckon it was possibly bigger than a System 2 board (never even seen a System 1 board though AFAIK

Make sure it's big enough for layered boards.

For example: Moon Patrol - not very big but it's tall due to 4 layers.
Irem M72 sets (R-Type etc): 3 layers and the middle one is about as big as a Galaxian board.

Also there are some larger flat boards:
Midway versions of Sega System 1 games (Up 'n Down etc): gigantic, as tall as Galaxian and much wider.

Well, talking of large System 1 boards there was a cocktail cartridge version available too (there's a picture of it about halfway down the page here http://forum.arcadeotaku.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=7938). I'm not sure how rare they are but they are pretty big (but not as big as a sys1 standard board, joking aside I don't think you could fit those boards in a cocktail even if you laid them across the top of the glass.

Bottom line is, cocktails scare me, I'm not putting a rare board in a tiny enclosed space 1mm away from the HV lead.

no problem, helps keep the PCB warm!

JROK's multi williams now holds the record for my smallest PCB - only just wide enough for the jamma connector, and about as long as two 6809's end to end.

works very nicely too

largest pcb set ever volumetrically must be Galaxian3 theater.

largest b/w set is Indy 800 by far

jamma stuff, well, hard drivin' bootleg is right up there :)

Atari system 1 is a huge set if you jamma'd it... System 2.. well it wouldnt be jamma ;)
