Mame Audio amp now done, what speaker should I get

I am contemplating replacing my 2huwman setup which was 15K set up with a dell 9020 i5 ssd SFF, know that I dont have a 15K monitor .

It will just be like an ordinary PC build using that chunkin windows 7, then maybe shove a coinops setup on top.

I have a Jamma connection in my cabinet and the 2huwman setup has a small audio amp/pcb on it.

I can see if somehow I can remove the jpac with the amp board and see if can get that working off the 9020.

Alternatively just wondered what other solutions people have used on their cabinets to pass some sound amplification via the Jpac.

My plain is to leave the amp at a set level and use the slider in mame to move it up and down.

I have been reading up and people complain of buzzing when powering some amps/pcbs , or use PC speakers etc.

I already have a jamma speaker I replaced not long ago, so not looking at buying pc speakers.

Not quite sure what this mini amp is, sure Rich will tell me what it is if I ask him.

Not sure if someone said there is now a replacement to a jpac which has an onboard amp ?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I made a little service panel for my two MAME cabs, which includes a little amp with volume knob. I just spliced in the amp to the speaker wires.

I use JammASD rather than JPAC specifically because of the built in amp.

The USB model has digital control built in - you can have PC/MAME on Max and use button presses/combos to alter the volume.cools2021-06-27 11:24:27

The amp buzz issue seems to be if you feed the amp from the same PC power supply as the PC. If you take the 12v for the amp from somewhere else like the jamma edge then it removes the buzz. Had same that issue and the fix suggestion was elsewhere on this forum.

I've set the amp to a level where it's always loud enough and then adjust per game in the on screen menu if needs it.

Big10ps solution above is far more impressive though! Like the monitor screen controls, is that the monitor chassis control board behind it run out on an extension cable?

Yes, that's the remote board controls. Comes in handy for tweaking the H Freq pot as I run games at their native res and frequency on groovyMAME and there's quite a lot of difference in horizontal frequency between all the games. Most games are similar though, so I don't have to adjust every time I switch games.

The cabs remain fully JAMMA so I can play original game boards on them. I just have to set the PCB amp to a minimum as amplifying twice isn't ideal, but it seems to work well enough.

Wow that is impressive ! I think that Jamma ASD will be useful and less hassle for me. I am impressed by what big10p has done mind !

What amp is behind the panel out of interest.

Oddly my current pc takes the 12v of the pc via molex and does not seem to buzz. Probably a combination of things. But thats the bit I forgot that you can take it from elsewhere if you get issues.

I dont use the actual arcade power supply in my cabinet now TBH. It has the pc using a pico, and the monitor is a low res LCD 4:3

Those Jamma ASD's aint cheap.

Thought this may work.

It is 5volt usb powered so can try using the mobo's USB and if buzzes use a USB power supply instead.

I assume I set the pc to mono.

Use the audio out from pc 3.5 mm using a short 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable.

Then just wire up from one speaker terminal pn board to the Jpac terminal ?

Does that sound ok ?

Decided to go for this one in the end

Overkill for what I need but save waiting from china and reviews are pretty positive.

I will have it quite low TBH. Its in cab so not worried about heat so much.

I will look for a 12v 3a power supply for it rather than take of the PC. I dont use the 12v jamma power supply as the jpac seems to be ok from the 5 volts it get of pc usb. So for safety I always leave the jamma one off, even though I replaced it with a new one when I got the cab.

Only pain in ass is the Dell SFF is bigger than I thought so some work to do inside cab !!

Too tall for behind the credits and too long not to drop down the hole at back if I push it back !

Just gonna fix a longer piece of wood, so can be pushed back more ! Then if I really need to I can get to it. Just dont want pesky kids going in !

My original speaker is 8ohm, 5 watts , 4" and points downwards behind the marquee glass.

While I am doing the build, do you think that i risk blowing the speaker up ?

Would this be better.

Visaton are decent quality, I got the R10 SC for a little jamma cabaret cab, sounds tons better than the original speaker, got mine on eBay for £14

Cheers Chunksin, just ordered 3 as got free postage then. Will replace the two in my cabinets and add the other to the spares draw !

For info as I was tempted by the cheaper S but went for SC as

"The R 10 SC is magnetically shielded and the R 10 S is not."

These guys were really friendly and reasonable price.

Did you get the 4ohm or the 8ohm? I think you need 8ohm for a single speaker in a Jamma setup but don't quote me! I went with 8ohm and it works fine

In one of my Electrocoin cabs It shows wiring for an Amp, it's the Electrocoin Amps as in Fruit machines and you see them on ebay quite often, there are some variations on them with different power amps, some say Electrocoin and others Technos, I fitted two in a pusher machine I added music player to, some 6x9 speakers in it and sound wasn't bad at all

I was planning fitting some of those in my jamma cabs so boards with amps on you can just hook up speakers as normal, ones without you could connect through amp to save having amps on each pcb

Switches alter bass treble and has vol pot, also fitted JammASD in cab for friend which was handy with amp on, other cab one of these, wiring is easy enough 12v audio in and out
