[ukvac] MAME in London arcade...
Okies all, before I go to bed thought I'd post this just out of curiosity...

Check out this:

Sorry about the awful photo, but I only took one and it looked okay on the
display. Anyway, point being is that its a OPERATED MAME MACHINE at 50p a
play. I actually asked the guy behind the counter about it "is this legal?"
and he replied "no..." end of conversation....

Its got a PC looking frontend, with ummm... dunno about 30 or more games on
it. Pacman, Double Dragon, Viewpoint, Rally X, Jump Bug, Phoenix, Outrun,
Asteroids, Battlezone, Frogger, etc.. to name a few that I remember. But
it appears to be a professionally made cab? Any ideas anyone on what this
is all about? This isn't some back street arcade, this is on Tottenham
Court Road by CEX (PC) and has been there ever since I were a lad many moons
ago.

Anyway, night... Will read replies if any tomorrow, need... sleep... Been
out with three 20-21 year old girls all day today and I can't stand the
pace, am getting old like Guddler - bring me my pipe and slippers.

Re: [ukvac] MAME in London arcade...
There are many locations that operate illegal conversions, many times if you
goto an Arcade and see a Naomi game in a non Naomi cab, then the chances are
it isn't a Naomi but a DC inside, using a MGCD convertor board to get the
Insert Coin overlays.

Most common are Virtua Tennis and Crazy Taxi.

Anyway always be careful when accusing operators of operating bootlegs, lets
just say some off them know some dodgy geezers, not so bad now, but in the
80's, the places where rife with crime (sorta like a mini mafia), some
people in the past have asked me to make MAME machines for operational use,
also I did talk about Quantum3D in 1999 about the development of Ultracade
(I believe they approched some people on this very list about development
work, mostly MAMEdevs, but that is legit).
