Wonder if anyone can give me basic help on Mcboot on PS2.

I have managed to make my own McBoot and managed to get games played off a USB key.

Now going to take it further and stick in a (old) Hard Drive into the PS2 once the adapter arrives later in the week.

Question : how do you put games onto the hard drive? Do you have to take it out of the PS2 and attach it to a PC every time you want to put a game onto the hard drive?

i currently use a USB myself, i heard that hard drives can be extremely slow due to the USB slots and disc image sizes, the USB stick isnt great if im being honest

I read the opposite! And saw a video on youTube where they compared side by side, The hard disk was faster.
(I am looking to install a internal HD not a USB HD)

my brother has just done this.. so he found a way also to put FMB onto the HHD so eliminates the memory card.
What he was saying you can either copy the games via the PS2 onto the HDD (same as how GXloader for the wii) otherwise you have to plug the HDD into a PC and copy over ISO files. Hopes this helps, going to do it to my PS2, so will know more soon.

I've used winhiip on PC to transfer games to hdd while plugged-in as usb drive. If you can get your ps2 networked you can do it without removing the hdd.

FTP is great
You may need to go into your router setting and allow port forwarding but when set up it’s awsome . I did it a long( as stated above 2 way network lead required .. and also then you can link up consoles to.. )
Time ago. Since then though I just copy from disk.

Like @Ste72 I use WinHip. It was a couple of years ago when I set it up and I recall that because the HDD is formatted in a proprietary format you need something like WinHip. The other issue I found was that my PC only has SATA connections so I needed a SATA to IDE converter.

One in the PS2 (I assume you have a Phat) the loading time is pretty good in my experience.

If you're using a phat PS2 and a SATA 3rd party adapter, they usually don't have working ethernet ports. a lot has changed from the old days of internal hard drives and using winhiip because of the proprietory format, with the latest OPL you can now use EXFAT and you don't need 3rd party software to copy games to the hard drive, connect it up to your PC, format to EXFAT, copy the games, stick it in your PS2. see the video for ref.
