I've decided to go through my collection and fix things chronologically. I've done a few of my Pongs already, so next up is Space Race and Midways clone Asteroid.. The third original video arcade game ever released!

My Space Race pcb still has a few minor issues with the game timer pot so isn't quite ready to call done yet, but the Asteroid is behaving nicely after a few repairs so i videoed it this evening...

Turn up the audio if you can, its quiet in the vid, but pretty cool :) This pcb uses a diode matrix in the shape of half of a rocketship, much like computer space did, in the days before roms were invented to hold shape information :)

Asteroid may well be an official license from Atari, but it carries no license information, it is a blatant clone, much like the pong clones were. Some people say it was a license, but i've never seen any paperwork or other evidence... might have to contact Nolan to find out!

Like all games of this period, its a 2 player only game, so its a bit hard for me to play in the video on my own.

enjoy

Cracking work Pman. Is it just me who thinks that game looks like a lot of fun. What controls did it use originally? Did cyclo have one of these in his bronze age collection?

It uses 2 joysticks, one per player, each stick only goes up and down. On my testrig, i have them wired to my battlezone joysticks.

TTL games are raw gameplay, albeit the most basic, but are fun.

My intention at another meet of some kind is to have a playable rig for my ancient TTL games, there really is no other way to play these. Yep, i think cyclo had one in his b&w stash.
