I didn’t
I'm not trying to be mean, we all started out like this. That custom chip could be saved with a lot of time and work, but it was years before I was comfortable working on surface mount stuff.

The right tools, watching some youtube videos and some practice will go a long way, not sure what iron you're using but a temp controlled one and a few different tips would help a lot too.
I take everything you say
On board …
I think I can save it / and I will continue to work on it .

I’m actually happy that it’s at the state it is as it was worse ..
I think I have lost a pad
And a trace .. but I think I could Use a trace wire to fix that .. that’s the plan or

Leave until I’m confident enough to remove it all ..
Repair pads ..

Swapping the NEO-ZMC2 did bring all the sprites and background back.
Still some thin lines here and there and some randm pixels flickering....

Did you check you have good ground ?
Maybe try adding another ground direct just to see if it’s A ground issue ?

Could be a slot issue.

Fancy doing mine ?
Can sendcsome spares 1 slots with it for you

I found an broken trace from the CN8 to the Neo-253 an C5. Patched it and everything looks great so far. I noticed that the voice and effects sounds are not as loud as the music that plays during the game. I'll see what I can do about that.
Found reproduction for the neo-zmc2 on furrtek.org
Job done here.

Sweet 👍😎well done

I have 3 4 slots just got cross hatch ..
I’m scratchin my head

I think it must be the ic that communicates the socket to the cpu …
All bottom boards pass diag no issues

Could be many issues. Dirty slots and so on.

Looking at the mvs schematics i see that its got stereo sound. My speaker is connected between the L and R not between GND and Mono. This could be the reason my voice and effects are not as loud. I'll see tomorow.

I did repairs on a 2 slot that had a lot of battery damage, had to repair a whole bunch of traces, and ended up needing 2 neo-257, one neo-g0 and a zmc2 replacement by furrtek. Gave the board a good service, installed coin cell and replaced all caps (which are a lot).
