[ukvac] OT: ADSL Migration Complete
Just to put this one to bed finally...

My ADSL migration went through without a problem once I had entered the MAC key into plus.net's migration portal.

A couple of pointers which may help anyone going through the same process.

Go here first and establish which product you are on http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/caps.htm

You can only migrate between similar products. Wanadoo 1 meg is actually BT IPstream 1000 and you can only migrate to an ISP that offers the same product, ie, IP Stream. Some ISPs only offer datasteam which is a different product.

You cannot go from a 1 meg to 2 meg service in one go. You have to first migrate from 1 meg to 1 meg and then have your line regraded (£15 to BT) in order to see whether your line can support the 2 meg service. If it can, the regrade takes place after the migration. If your line fails, you stay on 1 meg.

Although the migration process was straightforward once initiated, the completion date given to me by plus.net (22 June) did not match the actual date. So this morning my ADSL was off and I wasn't sure whether this was due to the transfer or some thing else.

It may seem common sense, but make sure you've got all your connection settings printed out because once your old ISP disconnects you, you can't get back on to see what they are.

The email from plus.net telling you 'your new ADSL service is active' comes through after your old ISP disconnects you, so you don't get to read it until you reconnect with plus.net. :-(

The connection settings for plus.net (security protocols) are slightly different to Wanadoo, so I strongly recommend having a 56K modem connected up and ready to dial should you need to review the connection help pages. I had to dig the 56K modem out the shed this morning.

I'm now £7 a month better off.

Paul
