[ukvac] OT: M4 Speed Cameras now live!

-just a note to let people know that the powers-that-be have
enabled speed cameras around the Swindon area on the M4 and maybe
beyond! According to the Police they are set at 79mph! Ouch, how
slow!! Still in the US if you do more than 5mph over the limit you
are asking for trouble...

Drive safely,
Dave.

p.s. Is it me or has Diminic Diamond lost the plot?
Ok, anyone remember Gamesmaster?

Yes, I saw him on some naff sky games program not so long ago and yes, he
has lost the plot, as well as doubling the ammount of pies he eats per day
since the days of Gamesmaster :)

"When Games Attack" its called, and its not half bad (IMHO), but I do
find I'm the only person on the planet who thinks Dominik Diamond is
already where as everyone else I know and have ever met thinks he's a
complete ass.

Anybody here with a GPS will tell you that *most* car speedos are at
least 5 mph out (slower not faster) compared to quite reliable gps
readings.

79mph isnt slow, although it is EXACTLY what they say the "unofficial"
guideline is for speeding (which is speed limit + 10% + 2)

so in all fairness you can still do near enough 85mph (according to
your speedo) without being clocked. not that I'm warranting it. I
always stick to the speed limit(s) and if you get caught speeding more
fool you. not for speeding, but for getting caught :)

arse not ass, you're in the UK. Unless you mean donkey.
Anyway, I think Dominik is OK, can't say I was too keen on him when he was a
kiddies presenter on Games Master but I think he has got better since then.
Him and Iain Lee (11 o'clock show) sort of take the seriousness out of video
games and make them look less nurdy.

Agree, he's a nice guy - pretty down to earth, good at games too,
played a great game of Sensi. As is Iain Lee - not bad at all. If
you've seen Thumb Candy he beat many of the early video games'
creators (Iwatani, Nishikado, Logg, Alcorn - not *that* great an
achievement, admittedly, but not bad for a presenter!)

Actually, there is nothing unofficial about 10%+2MPH - it's a very
official ACPO guideline.

The problem with the ACPO guidelines though, is the word "guideline",
which makes ignoring them very appropriate for the plod on the streets.

Re: [ukvac] Re: OT: M4 Speed Cameras now live!
well if you ever get stopped for speeding, one thing for certain is to
excericse your right to pace:

When presented the verbal caution you say:

* "I do not recognise the significance of those words and I would
like to exercise my legal right to refer to PACE – The Police and
Criminal Evidence Act".

This will cause two things to happen: -

1. They will have to hand you a copy of PACE, which is a very
thick and complex document. Then you can sit in the back of the
patrol car and read it for as long as you like and they can't continue
until you have finished.
2. They will probably treat you with great deal more respect.

IF YOU DRIVE A CAR READ THAT SITE NOW AND TAKE NOTE IT MAY SAVE YOU
POINTS ON YOUR LICENSE AND OR A FINE.

You could claim that you have alien foot syndrome! A guy got away with a
similar excuse after being stopped for speeding on a motorbike except he had
an Alien hand! A real condition. Scary !

Re: [ukvac] Re: OT: M4 Speed Cameras now live!

BMW 328i speedo's are only 2mph out BTW so watch out for that. And mine's 6
years old. More modern BMWs could be even more accurate.

When driving home earlier (down the 303) i drove by the GPS reading not the
speedo as i more often than not tend to do these days.

Pretty irrelevent though!

Nice to see you posting again BTW Mike )
