RE: [ukvac] OT: X-Box
based on the price that non-working (killed by bad modchipping) x-boxes sell
for on ebay UK, probably not!

I was going to buy one for the DVD drive and the 240v PSU (mines USA model),
but I've seen them sell for £80 in a dead state, with no controllers etc.

>Anyone got a good reliable source for the DVD drive in an X-Box??

RE: [ukvac] OT: X-Box
The US and english machines have different PSU's so you wont be able to put
an english psu in a US machine. The us machine has an extra voltage comming
out.

An extra voltage?

What, it has a different number of pins on the motherboard connector?

I have the manual for the UK psu with the pinouts, where is this extra
voltage on the US PSU?

Cheers, Des.

Re: [ukvac] OT: X-Box
I've put a UK power supply in a US machine & it worked fine, so the extra
voltage line is either :-

a) Fibs (perish!)
or
b) Unnecessary

You can replace the Xbox DVD drive with a couple of others (with a bit of
technical know-how)

If you do a quick search for....

"Connecting a LG DRD-8160B as a replacement DVD-Rom, with full
functionality"

You might get some info...

Hope this helps

Mark

Re: [ukvac] OT: X-Box
it was a series 1 US machine, had a blown PSU, we tried a UK psu but the US
machine had 1 extra power line (it may have been -5v). So we didn't even try
to connect it, better to have 1 broken then 2 ;). I seem to recall that the
UK psu also had completely different connectors. (also series 1)
