[ukvac] OT: XBOX VGA
Has any made a home brew VGA lead for their XBOX?

I've just made one and although I can get the picture to properly sync, the
blue and red are present but only just. The picture is mainly green, like
99% green.

Can anyone suggest why this could be?

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Paul

Are they both properly grounded? I seem to recall (although it was a long
time ago) having the same problem with a JAMMA board hooked up to RGB scart
and the colours were very dull. Hooking up R/G/B grounds seemed to solve
the problem.

RE: [ukvac] OT: XBOX VGA
Are you sure this isn't a Microsoft xbox colour-branding protection?
They want to make sure you understand the xbox stands for GREEN :)

Paul,

With the Xbox you need a VGA monitor that supports "sync on green".
Sadly this is how it works.
I used a Gamester AV cable(< £5) and hacked it to an svga connector.

Here's a link to info that may help you:-
http://www.xbox-linux.org/Xbox_VGA_HOWTO
http://playstation2-linux.com/sog.php
(the second link lists the sync-on-green monitors)

I've got it running on an old Sun 20" monitor, uses a Sony Trinitron
tube, so it's basically a Sony monitor anyway.

Good luck,
Dave.

RE: [ukvac] Re: OT: XBOX VGA
What exactly does sync on green mean?

I don't have a sync issue, so is the sync on green issue causing my overly
green picture?

Re: [ukvac] Re: OT: XBOX VGA
and some more

"The newer Xbox models (Version 1.4 and Version 1.5) have a different
video driver chip: FOCUS. Be aware that the versions of Cromwell (2.31)
and Xebian (1.0.3) do not fully suport this chip. In particular the VGA
modes will not have a real RGB output, but a HDTV output instead. That
means that the "green" output is not green but is an "Intensity". This
system is called YCrCb. This means that you can not connect the monitor
using the sync separator as described above. You will get a green image.
This issue should be resolved in a newer version of cromwell / kernel."

Yes...

There's more to it than a straight connect by the looks of things.

Thanks,

Paul

Mine is a 1.4 and it does have the focus chip.
