This is looking great! I love these Pac-Man cabarets. I finished my scratch build of one of these a couple of years ago and looking at this thread brings back memories of searching through countless pictures of these on the internet trying to get as much detail of the original correct. Thread followed 👍

Yeah, you are certainly right. I’ve spent a lot of time going through various photos trying to gather up as much information as possible and to see where things should fit. It really helped that @Vamino posted a few photos of the inside of the machine all those years ago (even though it was in a state) as it really helped me see where a lot of the things should go.

The general consensus between myself and @Flyback2021 :D is that the coin door is next for refurb and I can report it’s coming along quite nicely…

The monitor bezel art arrived two days ago and I must say I am incredibly disappointed with it. Firstly, the packaging was poor (just shipped in a single wall cardboard box), the box got crushed and the artwork got crumpled up. Secondly, the art sticker is designed to be fitted on the outside??? 😡 I was under the impression the sticker is reverse mounted and stuck behind the glass (like every other piece of art I’ve ever had that’s designed for a bezel). Basically, it’s going in the bin and I’m now on the lookout for a replacement.

Bummer. Where did you get the bezel art from?

I got a Midway coin door from the arcade boneyard for mine. The external frame was in a poor condition and bent, but after I stripped the paint and flattened the frame out with a hammer it was ok. I painted it with a Satin Black. I like it, but I think it’s supposed to have hammered finish (mine technically did because I bashed it with a hammer 😂).

For the Bezel on mine, I ordered some artwork and stuck it to the front of a smoked piece of plexi and then put a clear piece of plexi the same size over that. All my parts had to be made from scratch though, so it might be different for an original cab.

Some pics of mine. I still need to add some artwork to the sides which I haven’t done yet. I wanted mine to be the same colours as the normal upright Pac cab

It is from a guy in the US. I’ve messaged him about it and I’m now awaiting for a reply. I’ll wait for his response (or not depending if I get ignored) before naming him.

Anyway, photos of what I received…

I did think perhaps “sandwiching” the art between two thin pieces of plexi, but in all honesty it would look like a bodge. The original glass is quite thin anyway (I think 4mm) so I’d have to use very thin plexi for it to actually work and it wouldn’t be very sturdy.
I rather use the original glass with a reversible sticker applied or get hold of a reproduction bezel that’s already been reverse printed and ready to slot in.

You’ve done a cracking job on that

The inner smoked coloured filter on an original Pacman machine is a lot smaller than the glass bezel (the smoked filter sticks on top of the black plastic monitor surround), therefore putting that repro bezel sticker I received on the coloured filter, then putting a clear glass bezel on top wouldn’t be an option.

Thankfully, I managed to find a fairly decent condition Midway coin door. When I was hunting for one most of them seem to be in a bad way. I’ve used black Hammerite to paint it and I think it looks pretty good. Shortly I need to work fixing the door wiring as some was cut and I also need to wire up the two new coin entry bulbs.

Actually, I’ve just had a thought, thanks to @Shun
If I get a new piece of smoked coloured filter cut to the same size as the glass bezel, then I could stick that crumpled artwork to a new filter (hopefully getting rid of all the creases) and it will sit underneath the original cleaned-up glass.

@Shun , what colour shade of smoked plexi did you use/buy?
