Seriously??? How many years have I been using the damn thing and I've only just realised you can add funds from your bank account TO your paypal account which then means you don't pay any fees when sending money as gift. f**k me, I've probably spent £100's by not realising that

You can get a PayPal card aswell an use your PayPal balance in the shops

I am however getting a little cold feet regarding what I currently need to do! I'm thinking I may be better off using my credit card for the funds in order to get some small amount of protection even though it's a gift. Hmmm, what to do, what to do!

Unless things have changed recently, just sending funds from a bank account as gift is fee free - you don't need to move the money into PP first.

Mines linked to my credit card though so it comes from there if there are no funds in the PP account.

Anyway, job done!
