As title.

Demand seems to be at fever pitch for the Raspberry PI today with it having royally crashed Farnell's website.

I figure I'll pick one up eventually if for no other reason than curiosity factor alone but I don't really have any ideas what I would do with it.

So, if anyone is planning on getting one, what are your plans?? Assuming they're not top secret Pinky and the Brain type plans of course

Hmmm, but doesn't Xbox Media Centre need an XBox ??

(Joking! I know it runs on more than an XBox these days!)

Actually, having just had a quick nose at the downloads section, the irony is that XBox isn't there any more.

Good use of the PI though I imagine...

If they can tweak out the stutter (which I'm sure they will) then I'll be all over that!!

Though the video said the windows frame rate was 8.something, I didn't make out whether he said it was incorrect or not. Looks very promising though and will be a MAJOR threat to the likes of Apple TV etc.

I have to admit to being a little bit sceptical about the merits of the Pi. It's being really ramped by the BBC and has been for months. However, it's likely just going to run Linux and if you have Linux or Windows already, there are an abundance of programming tools and compilers out there that could have you coding in minutes. It's more of a hardware hackers tool than a 2012 version of the Speccy IMO.

*If* it's got the horsepower I want to use it as the video/audio server for my Dexter laserdisc replacement, then I can fit both boards inside the case of a real Philips VP931 player for that 'authentic' look

what, and deprive yourself of the pleasure of glueing tiny pieces of magnet to tiny, incredibly fragile little mirrors, while you re-calibrate the thing with your one remaining good eye? :)

That's the video I was referring to earlier. Impressive as it looks it stutters quite badly when he puts the muppet movie on at the end, at which point he rather hurriedly wraps up the video.

Like I say, it's early days though and I expect that kind of thing would be ironed out.

Not a happy bunny, first morning all week I dont get on t'internet before starting work and I miss all of this. By the time I found out (12pm) they were all gone and all I could do was register my interest on both sites (which include a "by signing this you agree to be contacted " clause).

Right now I am asking myself what the point was in registering on Rpi's site in the first place, as those who had signed up were supposed to be the first to know when it was being released. Now I find that it has sold out and money grabbing nonce's are selling them on feebay for 3-4 times the original cost. They dont even have them yet, and people are still bselling and buying them.

Yep, very annoying. But I shouldn't worry about it. Once they start to mass produce them they'll be as command as iPad 2's are now. At least by then the novelty will have worn off and you'll have decided whether you really want one. Or maybe tout of a use for it
