Recommendations for Shmup Sticks / Buttons [Woody Cab]

Although my first cab was a woody, that was over 20 years ago and I have mainly owned and upgraded Candy Cabs until now. I have recently acquired a cracking little woody which I really like but I am curious as to whether those in the know can recommend any better sticks / buttons more suited to the games I typically play.

At the moment I have these:


To be fair they are not too bad (though I have no clue as to what they are). I'm guessing another option is to upgrade the microswitches on the sticks?
I'd also like to know where I can find these brackets for purchase as I'm thinking about making another CP:

And finally, and completely OT, what do these levers do on the chassis?:

The levers are individual RGB contrast switches. Each can be set to low, medium or high.

Mounting a (pretty) SUZO 500 in an EGRET II

Updated 2010-05-02 (added a picture of the screw, extender and washer I use) Most EGRET II owners (or any Japanese cabinet owners) swear by their SANWA or Seimitsu sticks (I used to do that as well), but then I read someone @ the shmups forums write how awesome the SUZO 500 is for shmups...

Those Suzo sticks are my favourites although there are variations. The ones without the restrictor rings on the bottom feel less clunky, and I prefer the rubber grommet type over spring. Over time the grommets can crack which makes the centring a bit sloppy and I wish replacements were available.

For buttons I prefer the leaf types with long contacts. The contact surfaces are designed to rub together a bit so they stay clean with use. I don't like microswitches for shooters in general, although I do remember playing Nemesis a lot back in the day in a cab with fruit machine buttons .

Do you have a link to some of the variations you mention? The sticks in it are not bad to be fair though they are a bit squeaky! I'm keen to try out some variations and mods.

I think the rings on yours can be positioned differently to select between 4 or 8 way, and I think they may have a spring for centring rather than a rubber grommet. They are easy to take apart and clean, doing so might cure the squeak.

Super useful, thanks. I might try and acquire a few different types of stick and fashion up something.

Those brackets you asked about are knocking about on various sites. Just need to make sure the approx measurements match what you need.

Is there a variation of these Suzo sticks (with the rubber grommet) that had a smaller lever?
