Retro collecting

So doe's anyone on here collect retro video games eg.....nes,snes,mega drive etc ? if so what got you into it in the first place ?.

I guess collecting is a subjective term, but I have "collected" and kept a lot of games throughout much of my life. I have become a serious video game collector probably a little more than 11 years ago mainly because I started to have more income after leaveing the army etc. I started to accumulate a lot of games just naturally by saying "I'm done with that, what is next? and hitting the weekend bootsales with my dad and found that going and hunting for the older games at low prices is really fun (and addicting). Plus, it is really easy to get the older games nobody wants anymore and not have to spend all that much; that is what really drew me into it I believe too. The older games I missed out on are just as fun, if not more fun then the modern games today and have a good few games i missed out on when i was a child.

Yes, very much the same as you describe, main collections are for the Snes & Gameboy and all main magazines of that era, took me 5 years to eventually complete the full run of C&VG magazine from issue 1 at the start of the 80's right through to its end in 2004.

I started in 2006 when I picked up a Retro Gamer magazine with a great article on the 2600. That's where it started; "just collect the Atari published games in the coloured boxes, that'll be okay". But then I remembered the Megadrive and SNES were in the loft, so they came down. Then Retro Gamer kept telling me every month about all these other machines and games so, before long, I'd lost control. At the last count, there was around 1400 games and 40 different consoles. This was taken in 2010 when I hit 700. Since then, the 360 and PS2/3 games have been moved to make way for proper retro stuff.

But now I have stepped it up a level. I've one cab in pieces being restored and a working one coming from the states (from Andy, cos he's awesome). So, I've been soul searching recently and may be at that point where these have to go to fuel the Arcade dream!

ps. ignore the Action Man, that's my sons...............one day.

I like those shelves

Cheers. It was a real nightmare finding something to hold it all but found these in Argos ("Maine Tall Media CD and DVD Storage Tower - Oak Effect"). It's just one column wide, but you can arrange it to have CD height, DVD(ish) height or mix and match. being floor to ceiling meant you never sat there thinking "I've got wasted space up there..."

Also it was great because you could just get another one and pop it on the end as the collection grew and grew

Started with an Intellivison Pong machine many many moons ago

The a few years after that got the NES with Super Mario Bros......and it has been downhill ever since ;-)

Have far too many machines and dev kits, debug units of various different machines and now am moving into the world of arcade machines as well.

Probably because the loft is full and the house looks better with uprights and table tops :)

Man I've been through every console I think but Nintendo has always been my favourite.
Sold most my console games now except my Nintendo games.
Sold most most my game and watch which I do regret but I got £4500 for the lot.
My arcades are my first love now
I can't get enough of them

I sold my collection a couple of years ago. Worst decision ever. I had a boxed Nes, snes, n64' PS 1,2 and 3' sega mega drive, xbox, wii, game cube, game boy, gba, psp, all with loads of games, all the games were boxed. Got peanuts for them really, they seemed to have increased in value over the last couple of years especially the snes. Not much change from a £100 now, I might be being generous there too.
I bought a boxed nes on Sunday night from eBay with dr Mario for £55. So it looks like I'm starting again!!
On the hunt for donkey kong classics and smb if anyone's selling.
