Got home last night to find RG 187 thrust through the letterbox by the postie. Poor thing was lying helpless on the doormat with its spine broken in 3 places, but is now convalescing beside its similarly maltreated siblings on my bookshelf.
Anyway, while I found this month's features a bit on the meh side, I was really impressed with the the Bob Wakelin poster and the free CD full of reworked music from old computer games.
Some of you younguns might not appreciate the value of the CD, but I thought the physical media was a nice retro touch. In fact it reminded me of a cover tape from Zzap 64 from back in the day, with a souped up version of Thalamusic, which is also on this CD!
It also got me thinking of the efforts I went to eke maximum enjoyment out of the old 8 bit games. When I had my c64, it was all about the music. As soon as possible after getting my hands on a new game, I'd zoom home and bung it in the dataset. Total silence was then required to fully appreciate the loading music. Then, before pressing play, I'd make a point of listening through the music on the title screen. Seems I was a chip choons afficionado before that was even a thing. Anyone else do that, or was it just me? RygarR2018-03-23 08:55:55
